Does the money tree make you want to take it home and care for it as soon as you hear its name? The money tree is a typical foliage plant, with broad, emerald-green leaves that are full of gloss; growing it at home adds a different kind of color. And it symbolizes bringing in wealth and treasure, so it is deeply favored by everyone. But when growing a money tree, it occasionally needs to be decapitated. Why exactly does it need decapitation?

Reasons for decapitation

Money trees are generally kept at home as potted specimens for viewing. If a money tree is allowed to grow naturally, its height can reach about 4 m. If it gets too tall, it is hard to find a suitable place to grow it, and it also greatly affects its ornamental value, so it needs to be decapitated. This allows it to grow vertically, produce more side branches, and make the stem thicker and sturdier, giving the money tree a more attractive appearance.

Decapitation method

First find a saw, then disinfect the saw, and cut off 1/3 of the stem. You can use carbendazim or thiophanate-methyl to disinfect the wound. After the wound dries, seal it with wax. This prevents bacteria from breeding and helps the money tree return to normal.

How to care for it after decapitation

After decapitating the money tree, grow it in a warm, humid, and well-ventilated environment. Do not rush to water the plant. Wait until the potting soil has dried out completely, then water it thoroughly. After a week, new buds will appear, and then we can grow the money tree in a bright, indirect-light environment. If sprouting is relatively slow, it may be because the temperature is low, which makes the money tree grow slowly, since the money tree is suited to growing in a high-temperature, high-humidity environment.
