What is the biggest taboo when raising pigeons in summer? Pigeon keepers should avoid these mistakes
Summer is here, and for pigeon keeping this brings a lot of trouble, so there are many things worth paying attention to. Now let's ask Mr. Zhu from Lantian Homing Pigeon Breeding Center to talk about what is most taboo when raising pigeons in summer.
1. Mold. Summer is rainy, humid and hot, which easily causes materials to go moldy. So never feed moldy or spoiled feed; never line the nest bowl with moldy bedding straw; and never use materials that easily go moldy to build pigeon lofts.
2. Laziness. When it comes to feeding and watering, the emphasis should be on the word "diligent" and avoid the word "lazy." Drinking water that needs changing should be changed in time, preferably twice a day or more; feed troughs, waterers and the like should also be cleaned often; and the pigeon loft must be cleaned more frequently than in other seasons to keep it dry and hygienic.
3. Dampness. In summer, do not constantly make the pigeon loft very wet. Especially when the pigeons bathe, do not fill the bath basin too full, as pigeons love to splash around in the water and spatter it everywhere. Even less should you deliberately sprinkle a lot of water often for fear that dust will fly up.
4. Dirt. Dirt will harm the pigeons' mood and health. Pigeons look very clean and beautiful, but in fact they are very unhygienic, especially in summer, because their large intestine is short and droppings are expelled anytime and anywhere; if not removed in time, this will contaminate feed and drinking water and affect the pigeons' health.
5. Giving medicine indiscriminately. In order to try to win in races, people recklessly feed medicine to racing pigeons.
The points above are in fact also commonplace issues, but in practice they are often overlooked, causing losses that should not happen. Especially for pigeon keepers who are short on money, in summer they must not feed pigeons cheap feed of poor quality or moldy feed just to save money; this is not worth the loss.
