Fancy pigeons, also called ornamental pigeons or show pigeons, are one of the three major groups of pigeons and have a long history. At present, there are as many as 600-plus fancy pigeon breeds worldwide, and China has a great many fancy pigeon breeds that form a system of their own; according to incomplete statistics, there are about 200 breeds, such as the Purple Spot, the Black Jade Wing, and the Purple Aconite. At present, the main use of fancy pigeons is chiefly for people to appreciate their brilliant feather colors and peculiar bearing.
