The Complete Guide to Rex Rabbit Farming Techniques: A Detailed Explanation of Practical Rabbit Keeping Methods

Rex Rabbit Farming - The Sunflower Manual of Rabbit Keeping

First of all: the reason I use the term “Sunflower Manual” is that much of what is written below is my own narrow, frog-in-a-well view, though of course it also draws on and blends in the experience of many teachers and predecessors.
Furthermore, the Sunflower Manual is not an orthodox thing; if you do not truly understand its essence, you may end up with the effect of Dong Shi imitating the frown. I hereby absolutely accept no responsibility for any consequences after misleading you. Even if you end up training yourself into a woman, you do not need to pay me a surgery fee.

This post will be revised and supplemented on the basis of the post I originally wrote, deleting what I once thought was good but now consider immature. I will also describe some of my own thoughts and prevention methods for some typical cases, in which I will inevitably mention some drugs and the practices of some predecessors and teachers. Please imitate them cautiously, because differences in breeding geography, internal micro-environment, temperature differences, management protocols and so on will make those drugs or methods ineffective. Also, the drugs I mention are absolutely not meant to promote any manufacturer or individual, because they have not given me any benefit; I simply feel they are effective when I use them.

The greatest purpose of this post is self-entertainment and receiving criticism and guidance from predecessors and teachers, so that I can see a bigger sky.

At the same time, I declare that from the date of this post, due to my own limited energy, this breeding farm will no longer accept friends from outside the Baoding area to come to my farm to study, but friends from the Baoding area may come to my place to exchange and learn. Rest assured, there is absolutely nowhere that will make you spend money, but I will not reimburse your travel expenses.

Finally, as the old saying goes, these posts I write may not be reproduced without the permission of this forum.

 Rabbit Farm Construction

The so-called horse stance is the most basic thing in practicing martial arts, and also the thing that most should be done well. It is the cornerstone of becoming an unmatched master. If this is not done well, or is done half-heartedly, then your future martial arts will be a castle in the air; even if it is splendid, it cannot withstand the baptism of time and wind and rain.

The horse stance is rabbit farm construction. Many experts' articles introduce it in great detail; I will only speak of the key points I think most deserve attention.

a: If raising indoors or semi-indoors, generally do not use cement or brick structures, unless it is a particularly dry area; otherwise, excessively high humidity will give you a terrible headache. Of course, if the rabbits are used to it, or if you are a pure expert breeder, that is another matter.

b: Buildings must be well ventilated; this is certain, but I have a concept called excessive ventilation. What is excessive ventilation? For example, we humans have different comfort levels regarding felt wind (here referring to wind speed) under different temperatures and humidity, so the same is true for rabbits, haha. For example, when the temperature is fixed and the humidity is relatively high, excessive ventilation will cause the weaker rabbits to catch colds. Another example: when the temperature is relatively high and the humidity is relatively low, excessive ventilation will cause rhinitis, and even make the rabbits have nosebleeds. Very pitiful.

c: I believe everyone has seen the welfare standards for domestic rabbits in Europe. On the surface, it looks like kind and romantic people are fighting for welfare for rabbits, but in essence it is a very good guiding beacon for us rabbit keepers. If you let the rabbits enjoy themselves and stay healthy, they will repay you very well. The purpose of saying this is that our rabbit farm construction must be reasonable. Do not cut corners just because of cost, and do not waste the silver in our pockets just for “showiness.” What is reasonable is best. If this is not done well, it will ruin a rabbit farm or result in very low profits and high labor intensity. This is the fundamental reason why many small rabbit farms fail by making do, and large rabbit farms fail by putting on a show. Haha, when I say this, maybe someone will say, “Isn't this just empty talk?” No, it is not empty talk. If you look carefully at those welfare standards, you will know what reasonable means, and it is not what we think it is. Let me give another example: if the box where the doe gives birth is a dark box, the survival rate and growth rate of the kits are relatively higher, and the operation intensity is much lower than with an open birth box. Another example is the issue of activity space for rabbits. If it is too large, it will consume their physical strength and increase feed costs; if it is too small, they will be in a sub-healthy state because of the lack of proper activity. Once there is major stress, the rabbits will suffer from endocrine disorders and reduced immunity. Haha, in reality it is we who suffer.

D: The orientation of the rabbit house construction should use suffering as little cold wind invasion as possible in winter as the reference direction.

e: Practice has proved that rabbits are not very sensitive to light intensity, but day length has a great effect on rabbits, so whether the rabbit house faces the sun is not important.
