Orchid prices are so high, why do so many people still buy them? The reason is here

Everyone says orchids are expensive, but in fact the market price of orchids is determined by the orchid's own quality, rarity and cultural factors, and this often causes orchid prices to fluctuate greatly due to various factors, with some costing a few yuan per jin, and some tens of millions per seedling. When high-priced orchids are mentioned, the first thing everyone thinks of is speculation. This view is one-sided. In fact, many high-priced orchids are in short supply, with buyers crowding the door. Why is that? Let's take a look together at how orchids are priced!
1. Pricing by orchid petals: Whether an orchid's petal type is good is an important measure and standard for judging an orchid's grade. Petals resembling plum blossoms, lotus blossoms and narcissus flowers are called petal-type flowers in the trade, also known as plum petals, lotus petals and narcissus petals. The prices of these petal-type orchids are several times, dozens of times, or even tens of thousands of times higher than ordinary bamboo-leaf-petal orchids. Most of the orchids on our mountains are ordinary petals, all long and pointed. Anyone interested can go up the mountain to take a look.
2. Pricing by orchid fragrance: Orchids have such fine names as "ancestor of fragrance", "king of fragrances" and "number one fragrance under heaven", so fragrance is also an important basis for judging an orchid's grade. Among flowers of the same petal type, the fragrant ones fetch a higher price. If fragrance and form can be combined in one, it is a good orchid variety, and the price is naturally high. Conversely, orchids with a foul smell, relatively faint fragrance or no fragrance naturally have their prices greatly discounted and are not worth much.
3. Pricing by orchid color: Orchid colors are extremely rich, commonly including white, red, yellow, green, black, purple, orange and so on. Generally speaking, those with bright, vivid colors, strong contrast and uniform color fetch a higher price. In addition, among these colors, the rarer the color, the higher the price. Ordinary orchids on the mountains generally have dull colors, many mixed colors, and then some common colors, so their prices are not high. However, if among the common colors there appear ones with relatively good petal types, the price is still quite high.
4. Pricing by orchid oddity: The more unusual the orchid's flowers and leaves, the higher the grade, especially those orchids that are beautifully unusual, captivatingly beautiful and adorably unusual, with obvious aesthetic characteristics and relatively high ornamental value, which can create abundant wealth when traded. But those that are incomparably ugly are another matter, with prices only slightly higher than ordinary orchids.
5. Pricing by the quantity of orchid varieties: When there are many orchid varieties and widespread cultivation, and everyone has them, this will inevitably affect the market trading price. A rare variety with a scarce quantity is itself in a state of supply falling short of demand, so the price is naturally high.
6. Pricing by the orchid's overall form: Orchids emphasize the unity of charm, leaf posture, flower posture and color, with overall coordination. A variety excellent in form, fragrance, color and charm must be deeply loved by the broad community of orchid enthusiasts, and the price of such orchids is naturally somewhat higher.
7. Pricing by orchid species: There are many kinds of orchids, commonly including Chunlan (Chinese cymbidium), Huilan (Faber's cymbidium), Jianlan (four-season orchid), Molan (Chinese cymbidium), Hanlan (cold orchid), Chunjian and Lianbanlan (Dendrobium). The same petal type has different prices due to different varieties. For example, Jianlan and Molan are relatively cheaper, while Huilan and Chunjian are relatively more expensive. Whichever species is hot in the market has a higher price. At present, Huilan is the hottest variety in the market. It is not that Jianlan and Molan are necessarily lower in price than Huilan and Chunjian; that is incorrect. Among Jianlan and Molan there are also relatively high-priced varieties. This is mainly speaking from the perspective of major categories. There is no unified, fixed standard for price judgment here; one needs to go deep into the places of origin and the market to understand their real prices.
8. Other factors determine orchid prices. Different people sell at different prices, and different venues also have different prices. In addition, the orchid's vigor and health also affect its price. This is easy to understand, so there is no need to elaborate.
9. Comprehensive factors determine orchid prices. The above 8 factors superimpose and accumulate on one another, so prices naturally differ. The more layers superimposed, the higher the price should be in theory. For example, a variety combining petal type, flower color and quantity in one is naturally priced at a sky-high level. Here they can be superimposed arbitrarily, and I will not list them one by one. I believe everyone can figure it out!
Why do many people still buy varieties with high prices? That is because high-priced orchid varieties more or less contain the standards in the orchid pricing above. The higher the price, the stricter the standards. It is certainly an orchid with a scarce quantity, good petal type, good flower color and good form. Add to that the development of orchid culture, and people's aesthetic standards are irreversible, so the more one plays, the higher one's standards become. Add to that abundant investment returns. Although high-priced orchids carry great risk, the returns are substantial. With the same management and time, one plant can match a hundred, or even several thousand to tens of thousands. As long as you grasp it well and operate well, the risk can still be controlled. This causes the higher the orchid's price, the more people chase it. But most of those chasing such high-priced orchids are industry practitioners, and among them there is no lack of gamblers wanting to get rich overnight and become famous overnight. Outsiders are basically wealthy buyers, and it is hard for those outside the door to understand the logic and reasoning in it. Finally, a reminder that investment requires caution. Friends who understand the reasoning can go show off in front of laymen, and when they encounter orchids again they will also know what kind of orchid can be worth money. I wish friends who share this good luck in finding good orchids and achieving everlasting fame!
