How to Control Room Temperature in Winter Quail Farming
Seal off all the windows on the north and west sides of the quail house; for walls with cracks, also plug the cracks with sand and mud; for doors and windows facing south, hang straw curtains as well. In this way, cold wind can be prevented from entering in winter. Adult quails have a strong appetite at the suitable temperature of 15—25°C and lay many eggs; below 15°C, the egg-laying rate drops noticeably, and they may even stop laying and molt. Therefore, in severe winter or early spring, measures to raise the temperature should be taken: at night, cover the cages with insulating materials, and appropriately increase the cage stocking density, with 90—100 birds per sq m. Alternatively, build a double-layer plastic greenhouse (with a 5—10 cm gap between the two layers of film) in a leeward, sunny place to raise quails; multi-tier three-dimensional rearing can also be used, building a double-layer quail house with the interlayer filled with rice husks, coal cinders, sawdust, etc., and covering it with straw curtains at night for insulation. If there is no special insulation equipment, the top of the cage and the four walls can be covered with film to maintain room temperature, and the cost is low. Farmers with the means can also purchase a warm-air furnace or a small electric heater (500~800 watts) for heating, and generally running it for several hours at night is enough.
