Bougainvillea growing leggy is quite common. Many flower growers say, why does my bougainvillea only grow leaves and not bloom...... If you want to keep bougainvillea from growing leggy and make it bloom continuously, you need to do the following things well.

1. Sufficient light

Bougainvillea is absolutely the most sun-tolerant flowering plant. It must have sufficient light all year round. If the light is not sufficient, it is prone to growing leggy and not blooming. The more sufficient the light, the more flowers it blooms, and the longer the flowering period. You can check the placement of your bougainvillea to see whether it can get sun. It must receive at least four hours of light every day, otherwise it will be very difficult for it to bloom.

2. Water control

Although bougainvillea is a southern flowering plant, it is very drought-tolerant. Sometimes the leaves dry up and fall off completely, yet it can still bloom almost perfectly. If you always water it and it never suffers any drought at all, then even if the light is very sufficient, it will still be relatively difficult for it to bloom, and it will often have luxuriant branches and leaves, with new branches sprouting one round after another, yet still no flowers. So, if you want the bougainvillea at home to bloom, then control the water. Each time, wait until the leaves wilt before watering, and water thoroughly in one go. Do not worry that the leaves will die if they wilt from lack of watering. Bougainvillea is very tough. Not to mention wilted leaves, even if they all fall off, it will still live just fine.

3. Fertilizing

With sufficient light and proper water control, it still cannot bloom without energy. So we need to fertilize to add fuel for flowering. At this time, by no means give bougainvillea nitrogen fertilizer; you must give phosphorus fertilizer. The most commonly used one in daily life is monopotassium phosphate. After buying it, in the morning or afternoon, dilute it with water according to the instructions and spray it on the bougainvillea leaves. Spray once every ten days. Generally, flower buds can be seen after three sprays.

Many flower growers also know that the above three points can make bougainvillea bloom, but when it comes to actual practice, it is not that simple, and no matter how they do it, it still will not bloom. The most important thing is that everyone should know when your bougainvillea's flowering period is. Southern bougainvillea generally blooms in summer, and these three methods can usually succeed. But many northern bougainvillea bloom in winter, and in summer they just grow branches and leaves, so these three methods cannot make them bloom.
