Pollution-Free Meat Pigeon Breeding Technology

Choose a site for the pigeon farm that is free from pathogens and "three wastes" pollution, with higher terrain, good drainage, facing the sun and sheltered from the wind, and far from towns and farmhouses. The pigeon house should be dry and clean, with fresh air circulation and good lighting; a pigeon house with a civil engineering structure is best.

Young pigeons are best raised on wire mesh flooring. Raising them this way requires sufficient activity space, and it can separate the pigeons' droppings and debris from their activity area, reducing the incidence of disease. For paired breeding pigeons and breeding pigeons in the brooding period, 3-tier cage rearing is best. Using corn, sorghum, peas, wheat and other raw materials from pollution-free grain-producing areas to prepare feed for meat pigeons can enhance the natural taste and quality of the pigeon meat. The feed formula for young pigeons should increase grains such as corn, and the feed for breeding pigeons should contain sufficient crude protein. The feeder can determine how much feed to provide the breeding pigeons each day based on the number of squabs, following the principle that the breeding pigeons eat their fill and the squabs are fed full. Health sand is an indispensable feed additive for meat pigeons. Health sand should be mixed and used fresh; first mix coarse sand, shell powder, bone powder, red clay, etc. together (prepare the amount for 3 to 4 days at a time), then before feeding mix the ingredients that are used in small amounts and are prone to oxidation and deliquescence with the prepared health sand. The containers for holding health sand should be ceramic or plastic products, not metal containers. Drinking water supply must be guaranteed to be clean and pollution-free. The setup of drinking water containers should take hygiene needs into account, avoiding feathers and droppings falling into the water. Give the pigeons regular baths. For young pigeons raised on wire mesh flooring, use basin bathing, once every 15 days. For cage-raised breeding pigeons, use a sprayer to spray water for bathing, once every 20 days.

To ensure that meat pigeons are pollution-free and free of residues, it is best not to use chemical drugs or to use them as little as possible, and to achieve self-breeding and self-raising; introduced breeding pigeons must undergo strict quarantine and isolation observation; the pigeon farm must not mix-raise other poultry and livestock; the feeder should be in good health and may enter the breeding area only after disinfection in the disinfection room; pay attention to good cleaning and hygiene and regular disinfection, such as frequently cleaning the pigeon house, cleaning and disinfecting feed troughs, drinking water containers, health sand cups and other items, spraying disinfectant to disinfect the pigeon house, and spreading quicklime on the ground for disinfection; if sick pigeons are found, isolate them promptly.
