   Liyang is located in southern Jiangsu, one of the most prosperous "lands of fish and rice" in the country. For many years, local farmers have firmly believed the saying, "Farming won't make you rich, but it won't let you starve." However, the goal of building a new socialist countryside is by no means merely to ensure that farmers have food to eat; it is also to help more farmers become prosperous as quickly as possible. Liyang has found a path to prosperity for farmers through developing the "one village, one product" model. At present, the city has built a total of 54 agricultural science and technology demonstration parks of over 1000 mu, formed 18 facility agriculture bases with distinctive features, built 4 villages known for their courtyard economy characteristics, and had 5 towns named "agricultural specialty towns" by higher authorities. The series program "The Scientific and Technological Support Behind Liyang's One Village, One Product" will select five representative one village, one product demonstration sites to introduce the supporting role played by science and technology in developing one village, one product, prospering the rural economy, and building a new socialist countryside.
