Fast fly maggot breeding method and key operational points

Fast fly maggot breeding method

Using this method, there is no need to build a special maggot house; corn flour, wheat bran, rice bran and the like that the rice field eel does not eat are converted into fly maggots that the rice field eel likes to eat. The specific method is as follows:

    1. Breeding tools. Ordinary household plastic basins, plastic buckets and other containers are all suitable, provided the walls are relatively smooth and the basin depth is greater than 25 cm.

    2. Selection and preparation of the egg-attracting material and collection and cultivation of fly eggs. If fresh chicken manure is available, it can be used directly as the egg-attracting material to collect fly eggs. The method is: put the fresh chicken manure in a basin, sprinkle a little water on it if the manure is too dry, and place it outdoors where there are many flies, as far as possible in a shaded place; if the sunlight is too strong, shade it appropriately. Generally, flies will gather and lay eggs immediately after it is put out. Retrieve the egg-attracting material every afternoon, and clumps of fly egg masses will be visible on the surface of the chicken manure. It should immediately be covered with corn manure or wheat bran moistened with water to ensure the egg masses have a certain humidity. The next day many small maggots can be seen, and they can be divided into basins for rearing. The rearing method is: first spread about 3-5 cm thick of water-moistened wheat bran or corn flour in the basin, then place the hatched small maggots together with the egg-attracting material on top of the wheat bran or corn flour. After the small maggots finish eating the egg-attracting material, they will quickly burrow into the feed below. Under normal conditions, they can grow into large maggots in 3 days. The powder feed used for raising maggots can be fermented or used directly; if rice bran is used to raise maggots, it must be fermented, and the rice bran must be good-quality rice bran. "Rice bran" that is entirely rice husk has a poor maggot-producing effect. Fermentation can increase the yield of fly maggots. Generally, using 1 jin of wheat bran directly can produce about 0.5 jin of maggots, and 1 jin of corn flour can produce 0.4 jin of maggots. By adding waste such as pig blood, the yield can be increased by about 1 time. Powder feed mixed with water tends to heat up, so the layer of powder feed in the basin should not be too thick, to prevent the fly maggots from being killed by heat. The maggot-rearing basin should be placed in a place with a relatively high temperature (25-30°C) but slightly dim light.

    3. Cage management of flies. Using this method to collect fly egg masses will not only fail to increase the number of wild flies, but long-term use will also gradually reduce the flies outdoors. However, in some densely populated places, in order to avoid causing people's disgust, especially for those who want to use red-headed flies for breeding, the flies can be kept in cages.

    4. Separation of fly maggots. There are several methods for separating fly maggots. (1) Large basin and small basin separation method. Place a smaller plastic basin inside a larger basin, wipe the walls of the small basin wet with a damp cloth, pour the maggots and feed into the small basin to a thickness of about 2 cm, and the fly maggots will climb along the basin wall into the large basin. (2) Light separation method. Place a sieve whose mesh size allows maggots to pass through on top of a plastic basin, first moisten the maggot feed with water and pour it into the sieve, preferably to a thickness not exceeding 2 cm. Place it in sunlight; because fly maggots are photophobic, they will desperately burrow downward and fall into the basin below. (3) If a maggot-rearing house has been built, they can be poured into the maggot-rearing pool and allowed to separate automatically.

The waste material after raising fly maggots can be used directly to raise chickens, pigs, fish, etc. It is still a very good feed, and animals love to eat it very much.

Using this method, calculated on the basis of raising rice field eels with fly maggots alone, generally about 7 jin of fresh maggots can make the rice field eel gain 1 jin in weight, and the feed cost is not very high. Taking wheat bran for raising maggots as an example, 1 jin of fermented wheat bran can produce 1 jin of fresh maggots. Calculated at 0.7 yuan per jin of wheat bran, after each jin of wheat bran produces fly maggots it produces 0.4 jin of waste material, worth 0.24 yuan as feed, so the cost of 1 jin of fresh maggots is about 0.46 yuan, and using pure maggots to make the rice field eel gain 1 jin in weight requires a cost of about 3.3 yuan. Moreover, the rice field eel gains weight quickly, and the pond water will not be polluted, so it is worth widespread use by students. When fresh maggots plus fish feed are used for feeding, the feed coefficient will be significantly reduced, and the breeding cost will be even lower.
