Scorpion Introduction Techniques: Key Points and Detailed Methods
I. Timing of introduction:
For scorpion farming at room temperature, the introduction should be scheduled for late spring to early summer or autumn. Late spring to early summer is the best time for introduction, because by then the hibernating scorpions have emerged from dormancy and passed the "spring death barrier," and adult female scorpions have already entered pregnancy, so they can give birth within the same year, meaning the introduction can pay off that same year.
II. Sources of breeding scorpions:
One option is to catch wild scorpions or buy wild scorpions as breeding scorpions.
The second is to buy them from artificial scorpion farming units or individuals. For beginners, using wild scorpions as breeding scorpions is not advisable.
III. Selection of breeding scorpions:
When introducing breeding scorpions, you must have a detailed understanding of the scorpions being introduced, such as the breed of the breeding scorpions, their age, and whether the females are pregnant. Choose and buy young scorpions, adult scorpions or pregnant scorpions according to your needs, selecting the best. For male scorpions, choose those with a strong physique, glossy body color, lively vigor and strong libido as breeding scorpions. For female scorpions, choose those that are large, with a body length above 4.8 cm, no missing limbs, robust, quick in movement, with the rear abdomen curled when at rest, a plump front abdomen and glossy skin as breeding scorpions. Generally, spring female scorpions, as long as the front abdomen is plump and full, light gray in color, and about 5 cm in body length, have a relatively high birth rate and give birth early. Female scorpions that are too short should not be easily selected for breeding even if their abdomen is large and their color is correct, because their reproduction period is often later and cannot meet breeding requirements.
IV. Matching of females and males:
When introducing stock, some farmers select only female scorpions and no male scorpions in order to obtain more baby scorpions; this practice is wrong. According to the mating patterns of scorpions, it is appropriate to match females and males at a ratio of 2 to 3:1.
V. Transportation of breeding scorpions:
Generally, the tools for introduction are cardboard boxes and non-toxic woven bags, and the suitable density for transport is 500 scorpions per bag. During transport, first put the breeding scorpions into clean, undamaged woven bags and tie the openings, then place them into cardboard boxes with sponge or cardboard, paper balls, etc. at the bottom, and then put several pieces of wet sponge into the cardboard box to regulate the humidity inside the box. In addition, several ventilation holes should be punched around the upper part of the cardboard box to allow ventilation and air flow. During transport, severe vibration should be avoided. In summer transport, pay attention to preventing high temperatures, and in winter, pay attention to preventing cold.
