Common diseases of scorpions

The four most common diseases of scorpions are black abdomen disease, body rot, scorpion lice disease and desiccation disease. During feeding and management, various measures should be taken to prevent these diseases.
Black abdomen disease: the main symptoms are a blackened abdomen, abnormal feces, inactivity and refusal to eat. This disease generally occurs in winter or early spring, mainly caused by low outside temperatures and high humidity, which lead to excessive water in the scorpion's body. Reasonably raising the temperature of the scorpion nest and reducing humidity can prevent this disease.
Body rot: the main symptoms are a swollen, blackened abdomen, refusal to eat and inactivity, followed by rotting of the whole body and mass death. This disease is mainly caused by spoiled feed or unclean drinking water. It can be treated with antibacterial drugs such as furazolidone and a small amount of yeast tablets. Special attention should be paid to maintaining environmental and dietary hygiene to prevent this disease.
Scorpion lice disease: the main symptoms are extreme restlessness, with yellow powdery mite particles lurking on the chest and abdomen; the mites can gradually torment the scorpion to death. This disease is mainly caused by excessive humidity in the scorpion nest. To prevent it, the scorpion nest can be sprayed and disinfected with a 1% bleaching powder solution and a 3.5% potassium permanganate solution, or disinfected with a 4.5% formalin solution.
Desiccation disease: the main symptoms are a yellowed tail, a flattened front abdomen and a dull, lusterless body. This disease is mainly caused by long-term water deprivation. As long as water is provided routinely and the humidity of the scorpion nest is kept moderate, this disease can be avoided.
