What stocking density is suitable for ground beetle (Eupolyphaga sinensis) farming?
Ground beetles grow by molting, and each molt doubles their body size; we count each molt as an instar. Male ground beetles mature after 9 molts, while females need 11 molts. Artificial rearing of ground beetles involves area utilization efficiency and ease of management, and the stocking density should also vary according to the growth needs of each instar, as listed below: Larvae 80,000-100,000 Instars 1-2 50,000 Instars 3-5 25,000 Instars 5-8 12,500 Instars 9-13 4,000-5,000 The depth at which ground beetles burrow into the soil differs at each stage; for ease of management, we also list the rearing soil depth in a table: Larvae 5-8 cm Medium beetles 8-12 cm Adults 12-15 cm. 1. Big belly disease Also called bloating disease or gastrointestinal disease.
1. Cause: The pool is too damp and the feed has a high water content; after the ground beetles overeat fatty feed, excessive water and nutrients accumulate in the body, causing the disease.
2. Prevention and treatment: When ground beetles are found to have this disease, immediately pick out the diseased insects for disposal and take the following measures: first, open doors and windows for ventilation to reduce the humidity of the rearing soil; second, remove the surface layer of rearing soil and replace it with new soil; third, stop feeding green feed and feed dry feed; fourth, medication, mixing evenly at a ratio of 4 g of chloramphenicol powder and 6 yeast tablets (ground into powder) per 0.5 kg of feed, and feed continuously for 3-4 times.
