Eight methods for oxygenating rice field eel ponds in early autumn

In early autumn, the water temperature is high, which easily causes oxygen deficiency in eel pond water, leading to rice field eels gasping at the surface and, in severe cases, death, bringing huge economic losses to rice field eel farmers. When the aquaculture water is oxygen-deficient, the following methods can be used to oxygenate the water.

1. Cooling and oxygenation. Frames can be set up over the breeding pond and covered with rice straw for shade; vines such as pumpkin and cucumber can also be planted around the pond and allowed to climb onto the frame over the pond for shade, so as to lower the water temperature and thereby achieve the purpose of oxygenation.
2. Water exchange and oxygenation. In hot seasons, inject an appropriate amount of fresh water into the eel pond every day and discharge the old water, so that the pond water is adequately oxygenated.
3. Plant-based water purification and oxygenation. Plant an appropriate amount of aquatic plants such as water hyacinth, alligator weed and duckweed in the eel pond. Through photosynthesis, these plants release a large amount of oxygen and increase the dissolved oxygen content in the water.
4. Physical water purification and oxygenation. For each cubic meter of water, take 20-30 grams of quicklime, dissolve it in water and splash it evenly while hot. This can clean and disinfect the pond, improve water quality and increase the dissolved oxygen content in the water.
5. Photosynthetic oxygenation. On summer and autumn nights, iodine-tungsten lamps or relatively high-power incandescent lamps can be used as light sources to promote photosynthesis by the plants in the eel pond and increase the dissolved oxygen content in the water.
6. Chemical oxygenation. In hot seasons, for eel ponds with high breeding density, choose calcium peroxide or bleaching powder and evenly spread 2-3 milligrams per liter of pond water; oxygen is released through chemical reaction.
7. Pond cleaning and oxygenation. Silt is the main oxygen-consuming substance in ponds, so silt should be removed promptly every year.
8. Mechanical oxygenation. Where conditions permit, an aerator can be installed in the eel pond. In hot seasons, it can be turned on for 1-2 hours in the early morning to increase the dissolved oxygen content in the water.
