Scorpion farming is more suitable at natural temperatures in summer
Summer rearing and management of scorpions
1. When summer begins, the scorpion pen should be thoroughly cleaned once, and the bricks and tiles inside the scorpion pen should also be washed and disinfected. The indoor relative air humidity should be kept at around 75%, and the soil moisture content should preferably be 15%-18%. Because scorpions are in a hungry state after long-term hibernation, their demand for food is especially great. One adult scorpion can eat more than 2 yellow mealworm larvae at one time. Beginners often feed heavily at this time, but the result is just the opposite: after eating their fill, the scorpions suffer from indigestion and die from overeating within a few days.
The correct method is: when the temperature is around 20°C, feeding is not advisable; scorpions come out of their burrows one after another to be active each evening. When the temperature is around 25°C, begin feeding a small amount, and increase the feeding amount as the temperature rises. The feeding standard should be that a small amount of leftover food is found in the pen each morning. The feed should mainly be soft-bodied, juicy insects (such as yellow mealworms, ground beetles, earthworms, etc.).
2. For scorpion farming at normal temperature, after Qingming each year, scorpions are in normal growth and development. Whether summer rearing of scorpions is good or bad is especially critical, because the quality of rearing directly affects the spawning that year and the survival rate. If there is long-term lack of food and malnutrition, most of the young scorpions produced will be stillborn or weak, and in severe cases it may even cause miscarriage, wasting all previous efforts.
3. Every farmer should pay attention to strengthening the nutrition of scorpions. When feeding each evening, animal-based feed, additives and antibacterial drugs should be added to the feed. In this way, after eating, the scorpions grow quickly, the mortality rate during molting is low, and disease resistance is strong.
4. After entering July, when the temperature reaches above 32°C, a small number of pregnant scorpions give birth. The peak birthing period is generally from the end of July to the beginning of August, when the temperature is stable at 35-39°C. To improve the survival rate of young scorpions, farmers should strictly follow technical procedures to achieve the best economic benefits. If scorpions are raised at constant temperature, they can reproduce throughout the year, and give birth twice a year. If conditions permit, constant-temperature farming is best.
Summer rearing and management of scorpions
After the Beginning of Summer, more and more scorpions of all ages come out of their burrows at night to seek food. At this time, feed mainly on juicy and easily digestible feed, once every 3-5 days. After the Beginning of Summer, the cold-proof barrier above the scorpion house can be removed to increase light, but the rainproof facilities should not be removed. Before Grain in Ear, scorpions of all ages enter a stage of relatively rapid growth and development. Young scorpions molt and accelerate growth, and adult scorpions mate and reproduce. At this time, scorpions of all ages have the largest food intake, so the feeding frequency and feed types should be appropriately increased, and sufficient clean water should be provided at the same time. After Grain in Ear, female scorpions that have not mated run around everywhere, eager to mate. Because scorpions find it very difficult to mate successfully on soft ground, more flat wooden boards, cement boards or tiles should be placed in the scorpion activity area during this period so that scorpions can mate smoothly.
Before Minor Heat, because the natural temperature is relatively suitable, the growth of young scorpions accelerates. Scorpions of all ages enter the molting period, and mated female scorpions also begin to give birth one after another. At this time, soft-bodied, juicy and easily digestible active feed should be provided to young scorpions. For medium scorpions, 1.5 cm yellow mealworms should be used as the main feed. Pregnant scorpions should be provided with sufficient yellow mealworms, ground beetles, fly maggots, etc., and some meat feed should be appropriately added. Sufficient clean water should also be provided to scorpions of all ages. After Minor Heat, the temperature is relatively high. At this time, water needs to be sprayed frequently in the scorpion activity area inside the scorpion house to lower the indoor temperature and increase indoor humidity. Spraying in mist form is best, once every 3-5 days, or it can be determined according to weather conditions. In addition, 0.1% potassium permanganate should be used regularly to strictly disinfect the scorpion house. Do not use quicklime for disinfection.
