Peace lily (Spathiphyllum) is also called white sail, and is known by people as "smooth sailing." It is now the most popular flowering plant in offices, both beautiful and able to purify the air. The peace lily is very beautiful when in bloom, and even when not flowering it is an excellent indoor potted foliage plant.

And gardeners who care for peace lilies almost all use hydroponics, which is simple and convenient, and the key point is that it also looks good. But in summer, a peace lily cannot just be thrown into water and survive. In the past few days I heard a friend say that their hydroponic peace lily had not grown for a long time, and that some that had just been set up for hydroponics had not even rooted after one or two weeks, and in serious cases had even developed yellow leaves.

Since summer temperatures are high, if it still has not rooted after 1-2 weeks of hydroponics, then you need to pay attention, because it means your plant is nearing the danger period and is one step closer to death.

At this point we should pour out all the water from the hydroponic peace lily and take the plant out to look. If the roots show rot, then be sure to cut off all the rotten parts, then soak the roots again in clean, clear water.

Generally, for a peace lily whose roots have been trimmed and have wounds, it is relatively difficult to root quickly again. We can casually throw a small piece of aspirin into the water, which can solve yellow leaves and speed up rooting, with better results than rooting hormone!

This is because aspirin contains a large amount of salicylic acid, an active ingredient that is also found in willow bark. This salicylic acid can increase the root growth rate of hydroponic peace lilies and strengthen their immunity, which is very beneficial to the growth of peace lilies.

Adding an aspirin tablet to the water of a hydroponic peace lily also increases the plant's immunity, making it stronger against pests and fungal infections, because the wilting of peace lily flowers is mainly caused by the production of ethylene, and salicylic acid happens to reduce ethylene production, so this can delay the wilting time of peace lily flowers!

A friendly reminder: we should try to use aspirin tablets crushed into powder, as this helps the salicylic acid dissolve out better. The most important point is that the water quality for hydroponic peace lilies must be good!
