Key points for high-quality and efficient scorpion breeding and management

1. Separation of mother and baby scorpions

When 2nd-instar scorpions leave the mother's back, they should be separated by size in good time. This is because: first, the female scorpion consumes a great deal of energy during the birthing period, loses a relatively large amount of body fluid, and becomes weak, urgently needing to forage to replenish herself; if they are not separated, the female scorpion will attack the young scorpions when short of water and food; second, when large and small are kept together, adult scorpions will tread on and injure the young scorpions when they move about; third, the yolk brought from the mother's body by the young scorpions has been used up, and raising them separately helps the young scorpions feed and replenish their nutrition; fourth, young scorpions and adult scorpions have different requirements for feed insects, and raising them separately makes management easier.

2. Raising young scorpions

Scorpions of the 2nd to 4th instars are called young scorpions. The raising requirements during this period are as follows: first, as soon as the pregnant scorpion enters the birthing period, sufficient suitable small feed insects must be prepared for the young scorpions; second, young scorpions are at the stage of the fastest growth and development in their lives, so the feed must be well matched, mainly alternating small yellow mealworms and small ground beetles, and on no account should the feed be monotonous; third, young scorpions have a strong ability to cling and climb and move nimbly, so care must be taken to prevent them from escaping; fourth, as the young scorpions grow and their body size gradually increases, the density in the scorpion pool rises imperceptibly, so attention must be paid to raising them in separate pools to reduce the density in the scorpion pool.

3. Raising young adult scorpions

Scorpions of the 5th to 6th instars are young adult scorpions. During this time, in addition to supplying sufficient fresh, clean, highly nutritious food, selective breeding and purification and rejuvenation of breeder scorpions must be carried out without delay, to lay a good foundation for breeding the next generation.

4. Raising adult scorpions

Adult scorpions are already mature and capable of mating and reproducing. During this period, attention should be paid to the following points: first, increase the number of times feed insects are given, and adhere to the principle of “give more, feed less”. Especially during the peak feeding period for scorpions from 8:00 to 11:00 at night, feed once every hour. Second, reasonably control the ambient temperature and humidity, and create a good ecological environment; third, strengthen the management of breeder scorpions. Fine adult scorpions can be used as breeder scorpions.

5. Management of breeder scorpions

The management of breeder scorpions is of great significance, and attention should be paid to the following points: first, prepare sufficient fine breeder scorpions on time, with a ratio of male to female scorpions of 1:3, and raise them carefully in dedicated pools; second, create suitable conditions for mating and pairing so that every female scorpion can conceive; third, prepare suitable birthing chambers before pregnant scorpions give birth, and do the preparatory work before the pregnant scorpions give birth; fourth, after the young scorpions come down, separate mother and baby scorpions for raising in good time; fifth, do the work of fattening and rejuvenating the breeder scorpions. Once the female scorpions' constitution has recovered, an appropriate number of male scorpions can be put in at the right time for mating, so as to lay the foundation for the next round of reproduction.
