What to pay attention to when raising pet mini pigs in winter

Christmas is coming, and I wonder if your piggy has gotten lazy, happy to eat dinner and then go to its bed for a big sleep. One-year-old piggies should have finished shedding and be welcoming winter with their hard, black hair. What do you need to pay attention to when raising pet pigs in winter? In the end, it comes down to two words——keep warm!

Mini pigs really are afraid of the cold. Newborn piglets need a light bulb for warmth, especially piggies bred in the north. In winter the northern climate is cold, but because of the cold there is heating, which is a big advantage. Simply put, the winter care tips for raising pigs:
1. A room temperature above 20°C is more suitable for piggies. Even so, a warm bed is essential, and this bed needs to reach quilt level.

2. Try not to go out. If you must go out, wear warm clothes and go out on sunny days. There was once a piglet that went out to play on a snowy day and came back with a respiratory infection that then turned into pneumonia. This is no joke; this illness can be fatal. The older the pig, the stronger its cold resistance. Fat pigs over eight or nine months old are not too afraid, and going out to poop will not be a problem, but they cannot be out too long.

3. In winter, the diet should be appropriately increased a bit, so the piggy takes in enough calories to resist the cold. In addition, in winter do not forget to let the piggy eat a certain amount of fruits and vegetables, to prevent the piggy from getting internal heat when spring arrives.

4. The south has no heating, and winter room temperature may be relatively low, so special attention must be paid to keeping the piggy warm while sleeping.

5. When bathing, be sure to dry it thoroughly. You can use a super absorbent towel to wipe the piggy, such as the kind women use to dry their hair. Pay attention to bathing frequency. The winter climate is dry, and if the piggy's skin is too dry it will flake. Maintaining an appropriate bathing frequency is very necessary, once every one to two weeks is fine. If you find the piggy's hooves are cracked, also apply some moisturizing product.

In winter, piggies become less active and like to sleep in a warm bed. As long as you have a place to give it, getting a piggy through winter is actually very simple. The truly dangerous seasons are actually early spring and late autumn. The first time my piggy went through spring, it got internal heat and its eyes were so swollen it was basically blind. But what really made me realize how scary spring is was the second spring. In the group, bad news could be heard almost every day. Some piglets died of diarrhea, and some got sick as soon as it came. The piggy mortality rate was much higher than in winter and summer. It seems that when all things revive in spring, viruses and bacteria also flourish. So let your piggy get through winter well, and when spring arrives it can happily go out and play.
