It is hot summer now. In this season, the temperature is especially high, the growing environment of plants has changed dramatically, and there are many details to pay close attention to when it comes to watering.

As for when to water, choose a time when the temperature is not high, such as early morning and late afternoon, ideally after 10 a.m. and after 7 p.m. At these times the sun is not at its highest and the temperature is relatively lower, so watering is gentler; when the temperature is high, the water evaporates quickly and shocks the plant's roots. Before watering, it is best to touch the flower pot and water only when it is not hot.

One more thing to note: in fact, far more flowers die from waterlogging than from drought. In summer, if you see a flower wilting, do not immediately pour a lot of water on it - the flower will only wilt more. Many plants are easily killed by overwatering. If the leaves wilt, turn yellow, and even begin to rot a little, it is most likely because too much water was given and the plant cannot take it.

Water only when you see that the soil in the pot has dried and cracked, its color has become pale, and it has started to look like powder - that is when it is truly dry and needs watering. Normally, you can insert a chopstick or a long wooden stick into the flower pot and occasionally pull it out to check. If there is moisture inside the pot, soil will stick to the lower part of the chopstick. If a 2 cm length of the chopstick is wet, then there is no need to water. If it is less than 2 cm, start watering. But note: if the plant you are growing is a succulent type, then wait until it is less than 1 cm before you start watering!

Choosing the right time to water is very important. Never water on a whim - suddenly giving a lot of water when you think of it, and ignoring the plant for a long time when you do not. Growing plants may not look like a big deal and seems easy, but doing it well is not so simple. Care for your plants with heart, and they will repay you with their beauty!

Nine out of ten potted plants that die are killed by overwatering. Insert a chopstick into the flower pot and it is easy to see whether you should water. Then, when you grow flowers, you will never worry about watering again - you have solved the lifelong big issue of growing flowers. Doesn't that give you a great sense of achievement?
