Key Points and Precautions for Feeding Management in Pig Farms in Autumn
1. Pig farming in autumn requires strengthening the insulation of pig houses.
After entering autumn, the drop in temperature is the most important influencing factor, so we should first control the temperature inside the pig house. The most suitable temperature for pigs themselves is between 18°C and 23°C. Within this temperature range, pigs grow relatively quickly, but in autumn the temperature inside pig houses is generally below this range, so the pig house needs to be insulated. First, repair doors and windows to prevent drafts. If conditions permit, heating or infrared light bulbs can be used; if conditions do not permit, measures such as covering with plastic sheeting or lighting a stove can be used, ultimately keeping the pig house at a suitable ambient temperature. In addition, while insulating the pig house, attention should also be paid to strengthening ventilation to prevent air pollution. In terms of timing, ventilation should be carried out when the temperature is relatively high. Generally, the period from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. is the best time for ventilation.
2. Adjustments should be made to the nutritional content of the feed.
With the arrival of autumn and winter, the feed formula should be adjusted, feed nutrition should be increased, with the focus on increasing energy feed and raising the pig's feed intake. Increase the proportion of corn in the feed to above 60%. If conditions permit, add another 1% vegetable oil. In this way, it can better suit the growth needs of pigs.
3. Pig farming in autumn requires strengthening epidemic prevention for pigs.
Although in autumn, according to the epidemic characteristics of infectious diseases, major infectious diseases are unlikely to occur, the variable temperature can easily induce illness in pigs. Therefore, we should still carry out epidemic prevention work in accordance with epidemic prevention regulations. The focus should be on preventing diseases such as eperythrozoonosis, swine cold, swine fever, and infectious gastroenteritis. In addition, the cleaning and disinfection of pig houses should be strengthened. Generally, the pens should be cleaned once a day and disinfected once every three days to avoid the breeding of bacteria.
