A few recommended high-yield, high-quality chili pepper varieties

    1. Yangjiaohong No. 1: This variety was bred by the Handan Yangjiao Red Chili Research Institute from high-quality Jize horn peppers. It is a mid-early maturing variety with thin skin, thick flesh, high oil content, fragrant seeds and moderate pungency. The fruit is 20cm long, 2cm wide at the shoulder, with a single fruit weight of 20 grams, shaped like a horn. This variety has strong growth vigor, strong continuous fruit set, resistance to viral diseases, tolerance to phytophthora blight, good heat tolerance and strong adaptability, with an average yield of 2500 kg per mu. It is the variety most favored by chili processing enterprises in Jize County, Hebei Province, the home of Chinese chili peppers, and is suitable for deep processing such as chopped chili, chili paste and pickling, and can also be made into dried chilies or sold fresh on the market.

2. Hongfeng No. 1: This variety was bred from high-quality Jize horn pepper lines. The plant height is 80cm, the spread is 60cm, the fruit is 17cm long and 2.2 cm thick, the skin is purplish red, the flesh is thick, with few seeds and plenty of oil, and the flavor is pungent and strongly aromatic. It has strong disease resistance and is suitable for both spring and summer sowing. Spring sowing yields about 2500 kg per mu, with high-yield fields reaching over 3000 kg, while summer sowing yields about 2000 kg per mu.

3. Hongze No. 1: This variety was bred by crossing Jize chili with Sichuan pepper. It is early maturing, with a plant height of 60cm, a plant spread of 55cm, a fruit length of 20cm and a single fruit weight of 18-20 grams. The young fruit is green and the ripe fruit is bright red, with a strong pungent flavor, strong disease resistance and tolerance to high temperatures, yielding 3000 kg of fresh peppers per mu. It is the best variety for selling fresh peppers on the market.

The above varieties have wide adaptability and can be grown in most parts of the country, either in open fields or in greenhouses. They have strong continuous fruit set and can be picked and sold as green peppers, or sold as red peppers. They can be pickled, made into chili paste, chopped chili or sold fresh on the market. Yangjiaohong No. 1 and Hongfeng No. 1 can also be made into dried chilies to extend the sales period when fresh pepper sales are slow. After trial planting in Jize County and multiple locations across the country over the past two years, they have performed well and are deeply welcomed by farmers.

If this chili is not grown locally, you can plant a moderate amount in the first year and then sell it wholesale at nearby vegetable markets. Because this chili is fragrant and delicious when stir-fried, people will buy it even if it is a bit expensive. Even at a wholesale price of 1-3 yuan per jin, growing a few mu of chili can still earn quite a bit of money.
