Three Methods of Snail Farming

I. Open-air Farming Method

The open-air farming method can use farmland for farming. After plowing and turning the soil, break it up finely, plant broadleaf trees around the field for shade, and enclose the perimeter with netting to prevent the snails from escaping. A flat-roofed house roof can also be used for farming: spread loose soil more than 10 cm thick on the roof, plant a few grapevines around it and set up trellises for shade, and likewise enclose the perimeter with netting. The advantages of the open-air farming method are fresh air and good humidity, so the snails grow quickly and have mild disease incidence. Note that in dry weather, water should be sprinkled promptly to keep the soil moist; in rainy periods, drainage should be done promptly; and harm from natural enemies and livestock and poultry should be prevented, with even greater attention needed for households that keep large cats.

II. Indoor Farming Method

The indoor farming method can be divided into two types: flat farming and three-dimensional farming. 1) Flat farming: indoors, build square compartments about 25 cm high and 2-3 sq m in size with bricks, and spread loose soil more than 10 cm thick inside the compartments. 2) Three-dimensional farming: first make wooden boxes (about 25 cm high, with length determined by need) and racks, spread loose soil more than 10 cm thick in the boxes, then place the boxes layer by layer on the racks. This farming method is simple and easy to carry out, with low investment and safety. Note: open doors and windows every day for ventilation; adjust the temperature and soil humidity; keep the soil clean and the indoor environment hygienic; and cover the boxes with breathable netting to prevent the snails from escaping.

III. Plastic Greenhouse Farming Method

Choose an open plot 30 m long and 6 m wide, plow and turn it once, build a wall 30 cm high around it, construct a plastic greenhouse, and set doors at the front and back. After leveling and finely breaking up the plowed soil inside the greenhouse, farming can begin. The advantages of the plastic greenhouse farming method are that it is convenient for adjusting temperature and preventing natural enemies. However, note that in hot seasons, shade facilities should be added to keep the soil moist and maintain proper air convection.
