Clivia Root Care Tips: Strong Roots, Green Leaves, and a Vigorous Plant

Clivia has an attractive plant shape and blooms around the Spring Festival. It is a very popular indoor potted flower, and placing it in the home during the Spring Festival is very festive and beautiful. If you want to grow Clivia well, you must first grow its roots well. Only when the roots of Clivia are well grown can it grow vigorously.
1. Root induction for Clivia
Clivia has fleshy roots, and during ordinary care it is very prone to root rot and yellow leaves. If you are not careful, problems can easily arise. If the Clivia at home develops root rot, the best method is to repot it. Remove the rotted parts of the Clivia roots, then soak them in a carbendazim solution for about 20 minutes, then place them in a ventilated spot to dry the wounds. Once the roots turn white, they can be potted for care.
2. Sphagnum moss
Sphagnum moss is very suitable for growing Clivia. Growing Clivia in water is a sterile cultivation method and requires no fertilizer at all. Sphagnum moss can provide sufficient nutrients for Clivia, and there is no need to change the soil every year either. You only need to wrap another layer of sphagnum moss around the outside. This method allows Clivia to quickly take root and sprout. At this time, Clivia is in a sterile state and will grow relatively well.
3. Soil
To grow Clivia roots well, it must have good soil, which generally should meet the principles of air permeability, water absorption, water retention, and humus content. Below are some soil mix methods commonly used by flower lovers for reference: 5 parts leaf mold, 2 parts pine needles, 1 part coarse sand, 1 part charcoal, and you can also add some other nutrient soil.
4. Fertilizer
Clivia is a fertilizer-loving plant. If you want to grow the roots well, the necessary fertilizer is also indispensable. Spring and autumn are the peak growing seasons for Clivia, when its demand for nutrients is relatively high. We can use sunflower seeds, hemp seeds, and castor beans as fertilizer for Clivia. These oily flower fertilizers are very much liked by Clivia.
