How to get rid of small flying insects in flower pots? 10 cigarette butts plus 1 bottle of mineral water solves it easily

Fellow gardening enthusiasts, I wonder if you have this same trouble: now that the weather is hot and dry, lots of small flying insects keep coming to the flower pots, which not only affects their ornamental value but also makes them look dirty. Every time I fan the small flying insects away with a fan, after a while they fly back and settle in the potting soil, or even on the leaves. If I use insecticide, I'm afraid it will kill the flowers and potted plants, and I really don't know what to do.
Actually, there are many little tricks to get rid of small flying insects. For example, a gardening friend once shared that diluted washing powder poured into the flower pot is also very effective. However, this method is very risky: if the washing powder isn't diluted properly, it can easily burn the plant's roots. Today let's share a trick recommended by quite a few gardening friends, which is using effective cigarette-butt water to water the flowers.
Why can cigarette-butt water drive away small flying insects?
First, tobacco leaves contain nicotine, that is, tobacco alkaloid, which gives off a pungent smoky smell. When cigarette butts are soaked in water, the irritant components inside break down further. Although it can't be said to kill the small flying insects, it can serve to drive them away. A few days ago a gardening friend left me a message saying that, because they don't smoke, they deliberately went out to the street and picked up dozens of cigarette butts, took them home and used them on potted plants, and it was especially effective.
Using cigarette-butt water to water flowers and prevent pests also has its particular requirements.
First, prepare several dozen cigarette butts, then find a mineral water bottle, fill it with water and put the cigarette butts in. After shaking it a bit, leave it in a cool place for three to five days, and then it's ready to use. However, this liquid has a rather strong pungent odor, so it's best to add a little orange peel or pomelo peel to the mineral water bottle. When watering the flower pot, remember to dilute it first, with a dilution ratio of 1 part cigarette-butt water to 20 parts water.
Besides watering flowers, you can also filter out the cigarette butts from the cigarette-butt water and spray the liquid directly onto the leaves of flowers and potted plants with a spray bottle, especially for succulents, which are most prone to small flying insects. However, succulents are rather delicate, so before spraying the leaves, the dilution ratio should be larger; generally 1 part cigarette-butt water to 50 parts water is fine.
This method is suitable for most plants and flowers. But there is one plant that cannot use it, and that is asparagus fern (Asparagus setaceus). After asparagus fern is treated with cigarette-butt water, its leaf-like branches will dry up, so remember that. Apart from asparagus fern, all other plants can use it!
That's all for sharing methods of preventing and controlling small flying insects on flowers. Thank you for reading!
