There are more and more flower growers now. In the past, people would always leave me messages saying they could not keep any flower alive, but now there are not many people who fail at growing flowers, since a quick online search turns up plenty of information about potted flowers and plants. With more experience and over time, even some difficult flowers can be grown well. In fact, as I said before, growing flowers is a field of knowledge, and you must put your heart into it to grow them well.

Fellow flower growers all know that growing flowers is 30 percent about fertilizer and 70 percent about water. Although watering is very important, fertilizing cannot be left out either! Plant growth will naturally be poor and leaves will turn yellow without fertilizer. Next, let me share with fellow flower growers some knowledge about fertilizing in summer.

1. When growing flowers in summer, concentrated fertilizer must not be applied

When fertilizing flowers and plants in summer, you must master the principle of "apply thin fertilizer frequently," because if the fertilizer concentration is too high, after it is applied to the flowerpot it will burn the roots and directly cause root rot. With flowers that have root rot, it is very hard for us to notice, and only when yellow leaves and fallen flowers begin to appear do we wonder whether root rot is the cause. Especially in summer, when the soil temperature in the pot is already high, concentrated fertilizer must definitely not be applied. For most flowers, it is recommended to apply some dilute liquid fertilizer once a month.

2. When growing flowers in summer, fertilizer must not be applied at noon

Summer weather is hot, so when should fertilizing be done? It is recommended to fertilize in the evening each day and avoid fertilizing during the hot noon period, mainly because noon is when roots are most easily damaged. When fertilizing at night, the ambient temperature at that time is similar to the suitable growth temperature the plants need, and since transpiration takes place at night, it will consume part of the energy, so fertilizing in the evening is recommended. In addition, by the next morning, you can water once so that the fertilizer effect can be used.

When fertilizing flowers, besides the two kinds of fertilizer mentioned above that cannot be applied, there are also two points to note. First, when fertilizing, remember to keep some distance from the plant's roots to avoid burning the roots. Second, some fertilizers will change the acidity and alkalinity of the potting soil. Acid-loving flowers should avoid alkaline fertilizers. For example, gardenia, camellia, and others must not be given urea, calcium-magnesium fertilizer, and so on; it is best to use ferrous sulfate solution.

That is all for the knowledge about fertilizing flowers in summer. Thank you for reading!
