How to Treat Bovine Conjunctivitis? A Detailed Explanation of the Twig Insertion Therapy

Bovine conjunctivitis is a general term for inflammatory reactions of the conjunctival tissue caused by external and internal factors of the body. Twig insertion therapy is a method in which a peach or willow twig measuring 17-24 cm in length and 3-5 mm in diameter is selected and inserted into the cow's Shunqi acupoint (the opening of the nasopalatine duct), treating disease through massage and stimulation. Let us take a look at the twig insertion therapy for bovine conjunctivitis below!
Case 1 of Bovine Conjunctivitis
A working cow about 3 years old became ill, with clinical symptoms of lethargy, reduced appetite, mild fever, and conjunctival congestion and swelling, and was diagnosed with conjunctivitis. The owner was instructed to break off two peach twigs about 5 mm in diameter, peel off the bark, cut them into two segments of about 5 cun each, and insert them respectively into the left and right Shunqi acupoints of the sick cow. Combined with antibiotic treatment, the sick cow recovered after 3 days.
Case 2 of Bovine Conjunctivitis
A female water buffalo became ill, and the owner's own antibiotic treatment was ineffective, so the author went to diagnose and treat it. The sick buffalo was listless, completely refused to eat, lay on the ground for a long time unable to rise, and its right eye was swollen and completely covered with purulent discharge. The author took a willow twig, peeled off the outer bark, cut a segment about 7 cun long, inserted it into the left Shunqi acupoint of the sick buffalo, and continued injecting antibiotics to reduce inflammation. The symptoms of the sick buffalo gradually lessened, and it recovered after 7 days.
Case 3 of Bovine Conjunctivitis
After a female water buffalo became ill, symptoms appeared including congestion, slight swelling, and inflammatory discharge in both eyes, reduced appetite, and lethargy. The author broke off two peach twigs, peeled off the outer bark, trimmed them to suitable sizes, and inserted them respectively into the left and right Shunqi acupoints of the sick buffalo, without combining other treatment methods, and the sick buffalo gradually recovered.
Precautions for Twig Insertion Therapy
1. Accurately locate the Shunqi acupoint and insert the twig quickly.
2. The twig used must not be too thick; generally, a diameter of about 5 mm is suitable, and the smaller the difference in thickness between the two ends of the twig, the better.
3. The length of the twig should be determined according to the size of the cow's body, generally 5-7 cun. If this is truly difficult to determine, it can be cut by referring to the length from the corner of the cow's mouth to the corner of the eye.
4. The twig should be used immediately after being cut. No treatment measures are needed after insertion into the cow's body, and it will fall out on its own after recovery.
5. For mild cases, it can be used alone; for severe cases, it needs to be combined with Western medical treatment to speed up recovery.
Summary: Twig insertion therapy can not only treat conjunctivitis, but also has a good therapeutic effect on the common cold and some digestive tract diseases, and can be tried in production.
