What to Do When Goldfish Develop Black Spots? Causes and Treatment Methods

Goldfish are ornamental fish evolved from crucian carp (Carassius auratus), and are the ornamental fish with the most distinctive Chinese characteristics, greatly loved by people. However, during the keeping of goldfish, improper feeding and various other factors can cause black spots to appear on their bodies, seriously affecting their appearance. Let us take a look below at what causes black spots on goldfish!
Drug Poisoning
Goldfish suffering from drug poisoning will develop black spots on their bodies. If it is poisoning from heavy metal salt drugs, the water should be changed promptly, and the water temperature should be raised promptly to speed up the fish's metabolism, so that the toxic substances in the fish's body can be eliminated more quickly. However, this should depend on the situation. If the situation is serious, medical treatment should be sought promptly.
Water Quality Problems
Black spots on goldfish caused by water quality problems are much easier to deal with. Many people do not understand why water quality can turn a fish's body color black. Water quality problems can be divided into two aspects: one is water aging, and the other is sudden water quality changes. The former is due to excessively high ammonia nitrogen in the water, while the latter is due to large seasonal temperature differences. Water quality problems are simple to handle: first, change the water in the fish tank and see how the situation is. At the same time, when changing the water, the fish tank should be disinfected and sterilized to avoid leaving pathogenic bacteria behind and rendering the effort useless, giving the goldfish a healthy, sterilized, sterile environment. Second, after the cause is confirmed, carry out targeted treatment. To sterilize and disinfect goldfish, a dilute potassium permanganate solution can be used for a medicated bath. Generally, the medicated bath lasts about 15 minutes. Of course, during this period, the bath time should also be determined according to the goldfish's adaptability. Do not fix it rigidly; instead, treat reasonably according to the goldfish's actual condition.
Caused by Disease
1. Causes of onset: The main cause of black spot disease in goldfish is that when goldfish are caught and transported, the fish rub against each other and become injured. After the fish body suffers external injuries or the fish's skin is injured by parasites, mold spores invade and infect it, thereby inducing black spot disease.
2. Physical prevention and control: In daily life, preventive work against black spot disease should be done well. For example, be careful when catching and transporting so as not to injure the goldfish and avoid infection by parasites and pathogens. At the same time, in the aquarium where new fish are introduced, a small amount of table salt can be added to inhibit the occurrence of water mold. When adding live bait, attention should be paid to cleaning and disinfection. This can also better maintain clean water quality, isolate the growth of water mold, and prevent goldfish from being infected with black spot disease.
3. Drug prevention and control: If the goldfish has unfortunately already been infected with black spot disease, you can try using a mixed solution of 250 grams of table salt plus 250 grams of baking soda and splashing it into a 100*55*45 cm fish tank. Several days of medicated bathing are needed, and the treatment effect is very significant. Alternatively, you can dissolve 0.3 grams of malachite green or methylene blue in 100 kg of water and soak the fish body for 10 to 20 minutes, or soak the goldfish body in 2 to 3% saline solution once a day for 5 to 10 minutes each time. In addition, you can also use 2 parts per million potassium permanganate mixed with 1% saline solution to soak the affected goldfish for about 20 to 30 minutes each time, and its effect in treating black spot disease is also very obvious.
