How do you treat goldfish enteritis?

Goldfish are an ornamental fish that people in our country love to keep, originating from the common wild crucian carp (Carassius auratus) that is eaten as food in our country. With their strange postures and brilliant colors, they can be called a natural living work of art, and are therefore loved by people. However, during the keeping process, enteritis often occurs and leads to death. So let us take a look together at how to treat goldfish enteritis!

Causes of goldfish enteritis

The cause of enteritis in goldfish has not been fully confirmed. Most experts believe that this disease is caused by the intestinal bacterium Aeromonas punctata, so it is called bacterial enteritis. Goldfish enteritis is mainly related to unclean water quality and feeding spoiled bait. Eating unclean food or eating too much, with the intestines becoming bloated and excretion blocked, leads to bacterial infection of the intestines and triggers enteritis.

Symptoms of goldfish enteritis

At the beginning, sick fish appear listless and float, move slowly, leave the group, are anorexic, and may even lose their appetite. The fish body turns black, more noticeably on the head and tail fin. Red spots appear on the abdomen, and the anus becomes red and swollen. In the early stage, they excrete white thread-like mucus or become constipated. In severe cases, pressing the abdomen lightly causes bloody-yellow mucus to flow out. After dissecting the sick fish, the intestines can be seen to be inflamed and congested, and may even turn purple, so they soon die.

How do you treat goldfish enteritis?

1. In an 80*50*40 cm aquarium, use 0.2 g of nitrofurazone powder or 2 nitrofurazone tablets dissolved in the water for soaking, using the medication 2 to 3 times.

2. In an 80*50*40 cm aquarium, add 2 tubes of gentamicin.

3. In an 80*50*40 cm aquarium, adding 2 erythromycin tablets (or 3 to 5 oxytetracycline tablets) has a certain effect. For oral administration, the main options are Yufukang, sulfaguanidine, nakejun, etc. For medicated bathing, nitrofurazone, gentamicin, oxytetracycline, furazolidone, etc. are used. Oral medications must be dissolved and mixed into beef heart hamburger or other mixed bait for feeding. If the fish can no longer eat, then medicated bathing is the only option.

4. For every 100 kg of fish food, add 2 to 5 g of Changyanling and stir it in, feeding twice a day until the symptoms disappear.

5. Dissolve 0.1 to 0.2 g of nitrofurazone or furazolidone in 5 kg of water, then soak the sick fish for 20 to 30 minutes, once a day. For usual prevention, oxytetracycline 0.25 g, or tetracycline 0.25 g, or norfloxacin 0.1 g and other antibiotic drugs can also be used, with the dosage being 2 capsules per 50 kg of water, soaking for 2 to 3 days and then changing the water.

6. Sprinkle nitrofurazone or furazolidone solution over the whole pond (tank). For usual prevention, use a dosage of 0.1 g per 50 kg of water, which achieves a fairly noticeable effect.

7. Use 0.1 g of furazolidone per 1 kg of fish body weight, mix it into artificial feed (granular or flake is fine) and feed it to the sick fish, once a day, for 3 to 4 consecutive days.
