Orchids like a ventilated environment, so if the leaves are dry and withered, does that mean the ventilation isn't done well?

Before growing orchids, I believe many friends will learn some knowledge about orchids, and knowledge from all kinds of different sources will tell you that orchids like a ventilated, moist, semi-shaded environment. So you also think you can start growing orchids, but in practice you are often troubled, and the most direct example is: how can a ventilated and a moist environment exist at the same time? Once the wind blows, doesn't the environment dry out?

Good-photography Farmer's teacher is nature. All my knowledge was taught to me by nature. If you asked me to write something about professional theory, I couldn't write a single word. Let's first talk about the ventilated environment of wild orchids. When wild orchids are on the mountain, they are generally under pine forests and broadleaf forests, and with the shade of these big umbrellas, the summer environment is very cool. Moisture goes without saying, the water in the thick layer of fallen leaves, plus the dew dripping from the big trees every day, is enough to create a moist environment.

Today's focus is ventilation. When Good-photography Farmer was looking for wild orchids, he often noticed a phenomenon. Wild orchids generally do not grow in places without cover, and there is always something else around them, front, back, left and right, either grass or small trees or small mounds of soil or rotten tree stumps. So if there is windy weather, the wind force the orchid leaves receive is actually not great. And the few orchids growing on bare hill land rarely have good-looking leaves, either scorched yellow or broken and lying flat, which should be related to their directly bearing the strong wind.

When orchid friends grow orchids, they will create a small environment in pursuit of ventilation, and the most commonly used is an electric fan blowing wind, yet they do not know that orchids actually do not like this kind of ventilation. Chinese homes all pay attention to winding, circling wind, and it is not suitable to have a draft through the hall, especially in traditional Chinese medicine, which is even more taboo about a draft indoors. Traditional Chinese medicine has always believed that direct wind harms the body, and from this it can be seen that humans actually also do not like direct, straight-to-and-fro wind. The purpose of ventilation is the circulation of fresh air, and once you understand this purpose, you will understand.

For orchids that are over-ventilated with direct wind, the humidity of the small environment will drop sharply. The leaves will show scorched tips and turn yellow. If orchid friends notice scorched tips, they will think the growing medium is dry. So then they water frequently, not knowing that the potting soil is not dry, and this easily causes the potting soil to be too wet and the roots to rot. The beginning of a series of vicious cycles is because of excessive direct wind.

If direct wind is strong, it will also cause mechanical damage to orchid leaves, breaking leaves and breaking seedlings.

So Good-photography Farmer believes that the ventilation of an orchid-growing environment should follow wild nature, and use flower pots or other things to block direct wind from blowing on orchid leaves. As long as the circulation of fresh air is formed, that is enough, and do not walk into the misunderstanding of ventilation.
