Breeding time for neon tetras
At six to eight months of age, neon tetras enter sexual maturity. They are egg-laying fish, and spring and autumn are the best periods for artificial breeding. When breeding, choose broodstock with a body length of about 5 cm.
Breeding environment for neon tetras
The water used for breeding should have a pH of 5.6-6.8, being slightly acidic, and a water temperature of 25-26 degrees Celsius. The breeding tank should be placed where there is no strong light and no direct sunlight. Place palm fibers and other spawning attachments in the tank. For the fish tank, it is recommended to use a tank of 600*200*200 mm.
Breeding methods for neon tetras
At dusk, place the neon tetra broodstock into the breeding fish tank at a male-to-female ratio of one male to one female. The broodstock usually spawns in the morning, and the eggs are small and transparent. Each pair of broodstock can lay about 120 eggs. After spawning, the female neon tetra broodstock should be taken out immediately and kept separately.
Hatching management for neon tetras
The fertilized eggs of neon tetras need to be attached to a spawning nest to hatch, so golden thread grass or palm fibers should be placed in the breeding tank, and they can also be laid on the bottom of the tank. After about 24-36 hours, the fertilized eggs can hatch into fry, and after 3 days they can swim and feed. The young fish grow extremely quickly, reaching sexual maturity in about 5 months, and can breed multiple times a year.
