How much investment does farming scorpions require?

Scorpions are arachnids, typically characterized by a slender body, pincers, and a curved, segmented tail with a venomous stinger. The earliest scorpions on land appeared about 430 million years ago in the Silurian Period. They are both a precious medicinal material and can be made into high-end dishes, and market demand is growing. Let's take a look below at how much investment farming scorpions requires!

How much investment does farming scorpions require?

1. Fuel: The fuel currently used is sawdust, at a temperature of around 35 degrees. One barrel can burn for more than 3 days in summer and 1-2 days in winter, heating more than 60 sq m. Calculated at an average of 2 days, that is 178 barrels a year, with each barrel priced at around 10 yuan. So the fuel cost per 60 sq m is 1,780 yuan.

2. Feed: The cost of artificial farming is around 3 yuan per jin. At around 35 degrees, 1,000 adult scorpions eat 0.1 jin of insects per day.

3. Scorpion house: The main expense of the scorpion house is insulation; the scorpion pool and scorpion nest are only material costs. Foam board can be used for insulation, with a density of 16 kg/cubic meter, priced at 280 yuan/cubic meter. It is needed for the surrounding walls and the roof, with a thickness of 3 cm. Calculate the price according to the area of your own room.

4. Scorpion pool: The materials are cement, sand, floor tiles, stove liners and glass. Each scorpion tower needs 3-4 floor tiles, 80*80 cm, priced at around 14 yuan each. The glass width is 15 cm, and the length is arbitrary, depending on the size of the scorpion pool. The stove liners are 3 yuan each, using 5-7 of them. The material cost of each scorpion tower is within 100 yuan. The recommended number for beginners to farm per scorpion tower is 3,000 breeder scorpions.

5. Breeder scorpions: 1,000, 750 females, 250 males, totaling 5,000 yuan.

The profit of scorpion farming

One female scorpion gives birth to 2 litters a year, with 20-40 per litter. If matched at a male-to-female ratio of 1:3, and 1,000 are introduced, the annual offspring is 750 (females) × 2 (litters) × 30 (each) = 45,000. Calculated at a survival rate of 65%, after the baby scorpions are raised for 8-12 months, you can get 45,000 commercial live scorpions × 65% ÷ 1,000 per kg = 29.25 (kg). Calculated at the general market recovery price of 380 yuan per kg, the income can be 11,115 yuan. After deducting various costs of 5,000 yuan (seedlings) + 200 yuan (building pools, etc.) + 900 yuan (feed) + 1,000 yuan (labor, etc.) = 7,100 yuan, the net profit is 4,015 yuan.

The living habits of scorpions

1. Social habits: Scorpions like moisture and fear dryness, like darkness and fear strong light stimulation. They like living in groups, are quiet rather than active, and have the habit of recognizing nests and groups. Most settle together in fixed burrows. Generally, in large scorpion nests there are mostly both females and males, large and small, living in harmony, and mutual killing rarely occurs. But if they are not scorpions from the same nest, they often kill each other after meeting.

2. Hibernation habits: Scorpions generally emerge from hibernation in mid-to-late April, that is, after Awakening of Insects, and begin to slowly enter hibernation in early November. Their active period throughout the year is about 6 months. During a day, scorpions mostly come out to move after sunset from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., and return to their nests to rest by 2-3 a.m. the next morning. This activity pattern is generally on warm, windless nights with dry ground, while on windy days they rarely come out to move.

3. Cold-blooded animal: Scorpions are cold-blooded animals, but they are still relatively tolerant of cold and heat. They can survive when the external environment temperature is between 40°C and minus 5°C. The growth, development and reproduction of scorpions are closely related to temperature. When the temperature drops below 10°C, they become less active; when the temperature is below 20°C, they are also less active. The most suitable temperature for growth and development is between 25-39°C. They are most active at 35-39°C, growth and development speed up, and giving birth and mating mostly also occur within this temperature range.

4. Likes darkness and fears light: Scorpions like darkness and fear light, especially fearing strong light stimulation, but they also need a certain amount of light intensity in order to absorb the sun's heat, improve digestion, speed up growth and development, and benefit the process of embryos hatching in the pregnant scorpion's body. According to reports and observations, scorpions have a positive tendency toward weak light and a negative tendency toward strong light, but they most like to move under relatively weak green light.

5. Sensitive sense of smell: Scorpions have a strong avoidance response to various strong odors such as paint, gasoline, kerosene, asphalt, and various chemicals, pesticides, fertilizers, quicklime, etc., which shows that their sense of smell is very sensitive. The stimulation of these substances is very harmful to scorpions and may even be fatal. They are also very sensitive to various strong vibrations and sounds, and sometimes they are even scared away by them, stopping eating, mating and reproducing, giving birth, and so on.
