Newbies growing Chinese roses, pay attention to these few points, and make your neighbors worship you too! Old Li in Guangdong had just retired not long ago, and he was already impatient. How was he supposed to live like this? Playing mahjong and pai gow every day didn't seem like a solution either; he had to find some fun. Seeing that Old Wang next door had grown a balcony full of plants, Old Li also started to torment himself, thinking maybe he should grow some plants too. But Old Li's decision made Old Wang look down on him, saying how could a big leader learn to grow flowers? Growing flowers is not simple, you know. Look at the Chinese roses I grow, only a few small flowers have bloomed.

But Guangdong natives are born with a stubborn temper. Whoever says I can't do it, I'll grow them just to show you. I remember when I first arrived in Guangdong, I always felt that Guangdong people walked very fast, as if they were in a hurry to do something. The pace of life is also very fast, and many people really can't adapt when they come to Guangdong. Old Li studied flower growing for 1 month and ended in failure. Now Old Wang was happy, but Old Li was not afraid of failure and bought seedlings again. This time, in less than 3 months, Old Wang next door was stunned.

Let's take a look at how Old Li did it. Old Li summed up the reasons for the failure

1. Too much watering

2. Unreasonable lighting

3. Unscientific fertilizing

4. Unsafe soil

So Old Li improved his planting techniques, and in less than 2 months the results were remarkable.

Growth and flowering all depend on fertilizer

The cultivation soil is best mixed with a little rice husk ash, broad bean shells, bean cake or chicken and pigeon manure, etc., to provide nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and various other nutrients. During the peak growing season, attention should be paid to topdressing. Beginners are not advised to use granular fertilizer, or to use it sparingly. Old Li suggests choosing an organic nutrient solution that dilutes quickly, as this can increase the chance of success. Generally, dilute 500 times and water with it; in summer, do it once every 5 days.

(Below is a bonus for the nutrient solution, something most people don't know)

Light

Chinese roses like light, but too much direct strong light is not good for flower bud development. Especially on balconies with good lighting or on open terraces, you often find that Chinese rose buds easily turn black and leaves easily turn yellow. This may be caused by the sunlight, so proper shading is also necessary.

Water

They are relatively drought-tolerant, and it is best to follow the principle of "watering after the soil dries" when watering. When watering, it is best to let the water reach deep into the roots, but not to the point of water accumulation. Secondly, the leaf surface also needs regular spraying to increase humidity. This way the Chinese roses will grow faster and be protected from high-temperature dormancy. Overall, however, the amount of flowering during high temperatures will decrease, and in autumn they will burst into bloom again.

Soil

They have a wide range of adaptability to soil, but for pot cultivation it is best to use slightly acidic soil rich in organic matter, fertile and loose. Many people do not pay attention to this point, because many people think that growing Chinese roses depends entirely on fertilizer, but actually it is not so. If the foundation is not good, no fertilizer will help; only with a good foundation can Chinese roses grow better.

Pests and diseases

You can use cigarette butts soaked in water or trichlorfon diluted with water to spray and kill aphids. For black spot and powdery mildew, you can spray Bordeaux mixture or thiophanate, sterilizing spirit, etc. 2 to 3 times for prevention and control. Old Li also found that many pesticides are not suitable for household use, mainly in terms of dilution. They are inconvenient, especially a whole packet of medicine, but only a small spray bottle's worth needs to be diluted, which easily leads to excessive pesticide use. The best option should be small bottled ones, diluted with a dropper, which is very convenient.

Alright, after learning these few points, Old Li's Chinese roses had fewer diseases, lush branches and leaves, and many flowers. But Old Wang was in a sorry state now; his Chinese roses were all covered in powdery mildew and thrips. Now he was stunned, right!
