Wei Chuan offers compensation, buy-one-get-one-free on multiple products

In response to the blended oil incident, Wei Chuan proposed a compensation plan yesterday, launching a ten-day buy-one-get-one-free customer appreciation campaign on its main products starting immediately, while Wei Chuan Puxin Ranch plans a 50% discount on admission tickets for February next year.

Regarding the search of Wei Chuan's Xizhi Central Research Institute by prosecutors and investigators yesterday, in which five witnesses including a director surnamed Chung and a deputy director were summoned for questioning to clarify whether Wei Chuan had detected copper chlorophyll in its oil products long ago and whether senior management was aware of it, Wei Chuan stated that it will fully cooperate with the government and investigative authorities and hopes to clarify the truth as soon as possible.

Wei Chuan's compensation plan targets its main products, Daily C juice, LCA506 fermented milk, and Dajueyun tea drinks, through nationwide distribution channels including hypermarkets, supermarkets, and FamilyMart convenience stores, holding a ten-day buy-one-get-one-free consumer appreciation campaign, arranged according to the schedule of different channels, to begin as early as mid-November.

Namchow's stock price also hit a new low for the period yesterday, with the lowest point reaching the half-year line of 40.5 yuan, due to the illegal addition of sodium copper chlorophyllin in "Dashan Matcha Soba Noodles," Namchow Vice President and General Manager Li Kan-wen and Frozen Noodle Business Division General Manager Chou Ming-fen were each released on bail of NT$1 million.

Namchow spokesperson Lien Jung-chang stated that the company apologizes again for the misuse of sodium copper chlorophyllin and is willing to bear all responsibility; as prosecutors and investigators have begun their investigation, it is not appropriate for the company to make further statements.

Uni-President is also caught up in the food safety storm. "Uni-President Organic Ashitaba Energy Soup" produced by its subsidiaries Uni-President Biotechnology and Tung Chien St. Dacose has been found to contain sodium copper chlorophyllin, but because the outer packaging labeled the ingredient as natural chlorophyll, it has been fined NT$200,000. For the unclear labeling, Uni-President will offer consumers the option to return or exchange products with a receipt.

Uni-President stated that the four energy soups sold by Tung Chien Enterprise, namely "Ashitaba Energy Soup," "Colostrum Protein Ashitaba Energy Soup," "Kushi Enzyme Energy Soup," and "Collagen Energy Soup," as well as the "Ashitaba Energy Soup" sold by Uni-President Organic, although the addition of "sodium copper chlorophyllin" is a legal additive mainly to stabilize product color and is safe, in order to comply with the latest regulations of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the company has voluntarily removed the products from shelves and corrected the labeling, and will only restock after completion.
