Taiwan communications output value falls in the third quarter

According to statistics, Taiwan's communications equipment output value in the third quarter of this year fell 4.6% year-on-year, to about NT$223 billion. However, as global notebook computer sales rose 10.1% quarter-on-quarter in the third quarter, this in turn boosted shipments of WLAN modules supplied to notebook computers (NB), mainly 802.11n; with steady growth in demand in the smartphone and tablet computer markets and a rising share of 802.11ac built into high-end models, this helped the overall performance of WLAN modules.

In addition, as prices of WLAN power amplifiers (AP) and router (Router) products with built-in 802.11ac gradually fell, people's willingness to buy increased and shipments also began to rise. In the third quarter of this year, Taiwan's WLAN output value was NT$25.33 billion, a slight increase of 0.8% from the second quarter and a year-on-year growth rate of 3.7%.

The Industrial Technology Research Institute's IEK ITIS pointed out that demand for data centers, cloud computing devices and high-speed networks in North America and mainland China drove Ethernet LAN Switch growth of 8.78% compared with the third quarter of last year; trends such as data center network virtualization applications, cloud computing, virtual private networks (VPN) and IPv6 migration also drove growth in demand for network equipment, especially as the share of 10G products gradually increased. Orders from major customers including HP, Dell, Juniper, Extreme and other major brands grew steadily, and overall revenue performance showed a trend of continuous growth.

According to statistics, in the third quarter of this year Taiwan's Ethernet LAN Switch output value was NT$18.76 billion, up 5.6% from the second quarter and up 9.3% from the same period last year.
