NCKU industry-academia collaboration backed by four major corporations

National Cheng Kung University yesterday held a presentation on the results of its industry-academia collaboration, inviting representatives from four major corporations - TSMC, Delta Electronics, Hon Hai, and China Steel - to attend, demonstrating its determination to continue cooperating.
The NCKU Research and Development Foundation pointed out that of NCKU's total research funding, the proportion of R&D funding from the corporate sector grew from 14.7% in ROC year 88 to 23.4% in ROC year 101. Related income derived from intellectual property has exceeded NT$100 million for 4 consecutive years.
NCKU pointed out that TSMC, Delta Electronics, and China Steel are among the top 10 corporations in terms of industry-academia collaboration funding with NCKU over the past 10 years; among them, China Steel collaborated with NCKU on 110 projects over the past 10 years, with funding reaching as high as NT$140 million.
NCKU President Hwung Hwung-Hweng said that NCKU's industry-academia collaboration results rank among the top 10 in the world. Most of Taiwan's R&D capacity is located within university campuses, and with higher education funding possibly decreasing in the future, how to cooperate with industry to create a win-win situation will be the direction of effort for all universities.
He said that business owners are good at careful calculation, and that as long as the right professor is found and the right project is done, the best way to solve problems can be found at the most streamlined cost. National Cheng Kung University has accumulated abundant research results over many years and will continue its pace of cooperation with industry.
