Korean phone maker LG will unveil the LG G Flex, its first 4G LTE phone of 2014, in Taiwan, China on January 6 next year, making it the first curved-screen smartphone in Taiwan, China.

At the end of 2013, smartphones were not only competing on specs and software, but also riding a wave of different screens. LG's all-new 6-inch curved-screen smartphone made its debut in January, and the G Flex smartphone, whose screen curves from top to bottom, emphasizes a better fit against the user's face during calls.

LG stressed that the launch date in Taiwan, China is in sync with the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, USA, showing the importance it places on the Taiwan, China market.

The G Flex features a 6-inch 720p OLED screen, is powered by a 2.3GHz Qualcomm 800 quad-core processor, has a 13-megapixel main camera, weighs 177 grams, has a battery capacity of 3500 mAh, and is priced at about NT$27,000 in Korea.

LG Taiwan, China chairman Kim Byung-hyung previously pointed out that the G Flex is expected to go on sale in Taiwan, China in the first quarter of next year, with plans to target top-tier customers, and that its price may be higher than all current LG smartphone models on the market.

Samsung has also rolled out the Galaxy Round, which emphasizes a screen that curves on both the left and right sides. The two major manufacturers are clearly facing off, with strong ambitions to expand overseas. However, Samsung has not yet announced a detailed overseas launch plan.
