Cross-strait corporate cooperation to supply natural gas to Kinmen

(Taiwan Business News) Xingwei Company, a subsidiary of Cheng Uei Group, signed a cooperation agreement yesterday with Fujian New Energy Company, and is expected to supply liquefied natural gas to Kinmen one year from now.

Xingwei Company, a subsidiary of the listed company Cheng Uei Group, and Fujian New Energy Company, a subsidiary of mainland China's CNOOC Group, signed the cooperation agreement yesterday at the Kinmen County Council. Presidential Office adviser Shih Yen-shiang, Environmental Protection Administration head Shen Shih-hung, Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs executive secretary Yao Jui-hsiang, Kinmen County magistrate Li Wo-shi, County Council speaker Wang Tsai-sheng, Xingwei Company chairman Hsu Sung-fu, general manager Hu Hui-sen, Fujian New Energy Company chairman Weng Jo-tung, general manager Yeh Yi-cheng, and guests from various sectors attended.

Hsu Sung-fu said that the two companies' cooperation in introducing liquefied natural gas has lower costs than petroleum and petrochemicals, and is beneficial to industrial development, power generation on the outlying islands, and transportation.

Shih Yen-shiang said that the signing of the agreement by the two companies is a milestone in cross-strait natural gas exchanges, symbolizing the implementation of mutual energy supply across the strait, and he hopes that various problems can be overcome to push it forward.

Kinmen has been designated a low-carbon demonstration island, and through the supply of clean liquefied natural gas, it will become an island of high-quality liquor brewing and tourism.

Shen Shih-hung pointed out that Taiwan is promoting low-carbon sustainable homes, and Kinmen and Penghu are low-carbon demonstration islands. The signing by the two companies is helpful to Kinmen's low-carbon island plan. There is no problem with the technology for introducing liquefied natural gas, but administrative issues must be overcome. He hopes that Kinmen's introduction of mainland liquefied natural gas can be promoted quickly and successfully.

Kinmen County magistrate Li Wo-shi said that cross-strait cooperation to build a clean low-carbon plan for Kinmen is beneficial to Kinmen's development. Kinmen is moving toward becoming a low-carbon island, which fits Kinmen's direction of promotion, and he supports and welcomes it.

According to the plan, the liquefied natural gas supplied by Fujian New Energy Company is liquefied at a low temperature of minus 160°C, then filled into steel cylinders and transported by cargo ship to Kinmen's Liaoluo Port, where it is unloaded and transported to a gas station for storage. After regasification, it is delivered to users through pipelines. In the initial stage, it will supply industry and Kinmen Kaoliang Liquor Inc., and in the future it will supply power plants and households.
