HTC attacks the mainland market, mid-range phone exceeds one million units

HTC's mid-range phone has sounded the call for a counterattack in the mainland. Desire 816 pre-orders surpassed one million units within 10 days, and the first batch of 10,000 units sold on WeChat was snapped up within 1 minute, showing strong momentum in the mainland market.

HTC is counterattacking in the mainland and showing boldness in the mid-range market. This year at the Mobile World Congress (MWC), HTC gave the starring role to the Desire 816, positioning it as a mid-range flagship model with high cost-performance. The market believes that after gaining an advantage in price, HTC will add to its chances of winning in its rivalry with competitors.

The new Desire 816 is expected to go on sale in mainland China from March, and roll out in other regions around the world starting in April, demonstrating the importance attached to the mid-range market.

In the mainland China market, the Desire 816's first wave is a partnership with China Unicom. Because of its extremely high cost-performance, online pre-orders began on Yixun on the 7th of this month, and more than 1.18 million people have already placed pre-orders. On the 17th, WeChat followed with the start of sales of the Desire 816, and 10,000 phones were snapped up within 1 minute.

The reservation price of the Desire 816 in the mainland is only 1899 yuan, about NT$9,500, and includes gifts worth 299 yuan, about NT$1,500, making the price extremely aggressive.

The Desire 816 will next also partner with the two major mainland telecom operators China Mobile and China Telecom. Market rumors say China Unicom will join hands with HTC to hold the Desire 816 launch event on the 19th.
