Competing for a Slice of Tourism Ssuwei to Build Resort Park

Ssuwei Navigation Chairman Lan Chun-te stated that the company will expand into the tourism and leisure industry, building "Green Dance Manor," Taiwan, China's first large-scale Japanese garden landscape-themed leisure resort park, located in Yilan; trial operations are expected in April next year.

This investment is a BOO (Build—Own—Operate) project strongly supported by the Yilan County Government, requiring the hiring of more than 70% local Yilan residents; the investment amount is approximately NT$2.2 billion, of which land costs are approximately NT$600 million, and the remaining over NT$1.6 billion is for operating and construction costs.

Lan Chun-te hopes to contribute profit in the first year and recoup the investment within 3 to 5 years, since the land cost is not considered very high after all.

In addition to the originally planned 5.76-hectare land area, the park will add a 0.7-hectare landscaped wedding banquet garden, and will adopt and maintain 500 m of bicycle paths and riverside walkways on each side of the northern section and both banks of the river channel; in the future, two brand-new 50-seat coastal passenger ships are expected to be introduced.

Lan Chun-te said this will further extend the garden landscape leisure activities within the park to the Yilan coast, including the varied coastal scenery, views of Guishan Island, and seaside afternoon tea and other coastal activities, making the park a unique themed landscape resort in Taiwan, China, combining an onshore Japanese garden with offshore leisure activities.

Lan Chun-te has always been quite interested in the leisure hotel industry. He analyzed that business hotels in the market are overly competitive, and having done business in Japan for over 30 years, he deeply admires the tranquility of Japanese gardens, so he collaborated with architect Huang Shih-ming to remove the traditional serious impression of Japanese style and add elements of modern design.
