Changhua County prevents problems before they occur, strengthens public safety inspections

(Taiwan Business News) To strengthen food business operators' awareness of public safety and protect people's lives and property, Changhua County Government, starting on the 16th, had Fire Bureau Deputy Director Hu Wensen and Construction Department Technical Specialist Li Guangqia lead inspection personnel, together with the Architects Association, conduct public safety health checks and awareness campaigns for small-scale shops and businesses in commercial districts with dense populations and frequent commercial activity, such as bakeries, beverage shops and grocery stores, inspecting businesses' fire escape facilities and providing improvement suggestions, hoping that tragic fires will no longer occur.
At 11 a.m. on the 16th, the Changhua County food business operators' public safety health check and awareness group first went to Maishijia Bakery on Sanmin Road in Changhua City to inspect escape routes and electricity use. Construction Department Technical Specialist Li Guangqia said that general small-scale shop commercial facilities mostly fall into the category of premises that have not reached the threshold for public use and are not required to file building public safety declarations, and therefore are not included in the scope of routine inspections carried out by government agencies. For this reason, the county government established the health check and awareness group to strengthen operators' public safety awareness and reduce the chance of future disasters.
After the Fire Bureau and Architects Association architects inspected Maishijia, they pointed out that Maishijia has front and rear doors for escape, and the rolling shutter door can be opened manually, meeting regulations. The second floor of the shop only stores miscellaneous items, and it was suggested to use fewer extension cords to avoid overloading electrical facilities. The Fire Bureau is promoting residential fire alarms; for this type of small shop, which by law is not required to have automatic fire alarm equipment, management authorities should still install residential fire alarms to provide timely warning and allow time to respond and escape.
