Where are the production areas of Coptis chinensis distributed? Introduction to the main production areas

Coptis chinensis, also known as Weilian, Chuanlian, Jizhualian, etc., is a perennial herb of the genus Coptis in the Ranunculaceae family. Its production areas are mainly distributed in the cool, humid, shaded dense forests of valleys in Sichuan, Guizhou, Hunan, Hubei, Shaanxi and other places. It has the effects of clearing heat and drying dampness, and purging fire and detoxifying. Now let us take a look at the production area distribution of Coptis chinensis!
The production area distribution of Coptis chinensis
Coptis chinensis grows wild or is cultivated in mountain forests or shady valley areas at altitudes of 500-2000 m. Its main production areas in China include Sichuan, Chongqing, Guizhou, Hunan, Hubei, Shaanxi and other places.
The production environment of Coptis chinensis
Coptis chinensis prefers cool, humid and shaded conditions, and avoids high temperatures and drought. It needs a natural environment with low temperature and high air humidity, and cannot be exposed to strong sunlight. It prefers weak light, so shading is required. It is a shallow-rooted plant, distributed in the 5~10 cm soil layer. It is suitable for soil with loose and fertile surface soil, rich humus, and a deep soil layer, with a pH of 5.5~6.5, which is slightly acidic.
China's Hometown of Coptis chinensis
1. Zhuxi County, Hubei: Zhuxi County is located in the hinterland of the northern slope of the eastern section of the Daba Mountains, adjacent to Shaanxi and Chongqing. It is one of the famous main production areas of “Qingui Chuanlian”, and is the earliest “Hometown of Coptis chinensis” to be commended by the state. As early as 1956, the Zhuxi County Party Committee and County Government selected a skilled Coptis chinensis grower, a farmer of Sichuan origin from Liushuping Village, Taoyuan Township, as a representative to attend the National Heroes Meeting. Premier Zhou Enlai personally awarded the Zhuxi representative a banner with the four glittering golden characters “Hometown of Coptis chinensis”.
2. Shizhu County, Chongqing: Shizhu County is located in the east of Chongqing, on the south bank of the Yangtze River, and in the heart of the Three Gorges Reservoir Area. It is known for its long history of Coptis chinensis cultivation, large planting scale, high yield and excellent quality. In November 2001, it was designated by the Ministry of Science and Technology as a “China High-quality Traditional Chinese Medicinal Material (Coptis chinensis) Demonstration Planting Base”. In 1954, “Shizhu Coptis chinensis was listed as a national medicine”. On December 23, 2003, “Shizhu Coptis chinensis Origin Protection” passed expert review. In December 2003, it was designated as a “Chongqing Famous Brand Agricultural Product” by the Chongqing Famous Brand Agricultural Product Accreditation Committee.
