Production Area Distribution of Taizishen

Taizishen is the dried tuberous root of the Caryophyllaceae plant Pseudostellaria heterophylla, a common traditional Chinese medicinal herb distributed in Liaoning, Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Shaanxi, Shandong, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan and other places. Let's take a look at the production area distribution of Taizishen below!

Production Area Distribution of Taizishen

Taizishen is mainly distributed in Liaoning, Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Shaanxi, Shandong, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan, Guizhou and other places, growing in shady and moist places under forest in valleys at an altitude of 800-2700 m. It is also found in Japan and Korea.

Production Environment of Taizishen

Taizishen mostly grows wild in rock crevices and layers of dead branches and fallen leaves on shady and moist hillsides, and prefers loose sandy loam rich in humus with good drainage. It is suitable for a mild and humid climate, growing vigorously at an average ten-day temperature of 10-20°C, and it is intolerant of hot summer high temperatures and strong light exposure. When the temperature reaches above 30°C, plant growth stagnates. In late June, the plant begins to wither and enters dormancy to overwinter the summer.

Taizishen has strong cold resistance and can safely overwinter at a temperature of -17°C. It likes fertilizer and fears waterlogging, and roots rot easily after water accumulation. Seeds should not be dried and stored for long; they are best sown as soon as collected, and certain low-temperature conditions must be met for germination. Therefore, under natural conditions, seedlings from seeds can only be seen in spring, while asexual seedlings grown from seed tubers have already emerged in spring. After emergence, the plant grows gradually faster, branches form above ground, and leaves enlarge. The underground stem has the characteristic of "roots growing from stem nodes," and as the above-ground part grows, it expands into spindle-shaped tuberous roots.
