(Taiwan Business News) The Taichung City Education Bureau yesterday (the 22nd) held the second session of "Professional Training for Elementary and Junior High School Crossing Guard Volunteers" at the Chaogang City International Gourmet Restaurant, with more than 1,200 people attending. Taichung Mayor Hu Chih-chiang presented certificates of appreciation to the volunteers and also cheered them on.

As soon as Taichung Mayor Hu Chih-chiang arrived at the venue yesterday, he received a warm welcome from all the crossing guard volunteers and elementary school children; Mayor Hu also praised the volunteers for their hard work and dedication, saying that everything the crossing guards do is for the sake of the next generation. He also encouraged them to work together with the city government to give the next generation a better environment in which to grow up.

The Taichung City Education Bureau pointed out that yesterday's training was mainly attended by about 1,200 elementary and junior high school crossing guard volunteers from Nantun District, Xitun District, Central District and West District, and that Wu Chi-jui, captain of the Traffic Brigade, was invited to give a lecture on maintaining children's safety and to share the key points of traffic direction.

Taichung currently has about 20,000 education volunteers, of whom 8,500 are traffic crossing guard volunteers, who brave wind and rain every day to protect children's safety going to and from school; the Education Bureau hopes that through this volunteer professional training, students' safety going to and from school can be safeguarded.
