Origin Distribution and Main Producing Areas of Rehmannia

Rehmannia is a perennial herb of the genus Rehmannia in the family Scrophulariaceae (figwort family), growing on hillsides and in wasteland beside roads at altitudes of 50-1100 m. It is named Rehmannia because its underground tuberous roots are yellowish-white. Its roots are one of the traditional Chinese medicines, first recorded in the Shennong Bencao Jing (Divine Farmer's Materia Medica). Let's now take a look at the origin distribution of Rehmannia!
Origin Distribution of Rehmannia
Rehmannia is mainly distributed in Liaoning, Hebei, Henan, Shandong, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Gansu, Inner Mongolia, Jiangsu, Hubei and other provinces and regions, and is cultivated throughout China and abroad.
Origin Distribution of Sheng Dihuang (Raw Rehmannia)
Sheng Dihuang prefers a mild climate and sunny locations, fears waterlogging, and should not be planted in continuous cropping. Its tuberous roots grow rapidly at 25-28°C. It grows on sandy loam, barren hillsides, at the foot of hills, beside walls, and along roadsides at altitudes of 50-1100 m.
Sheng Dihuang is native to China and distributed in Beijing, Tianjin, Henan, Hebei, Liaoning, Shandong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Anhui, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Inner Mongolia, Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan and other places, with the main producing areas being Henan, Liaoning, Hebei, Shandong and Zhejiang. It is also found in Korea and Japan.
Origin Environment of Rehmannia
1. Fertilizer preference: Rehmannia prefers loose, fertile sandy loam; red loam, yellow loam or paddy soil with high clay content is not suitable for planting.
2. Light preference: Rehmannia is a light-loving plant, and the planting site should not be close to forest edges or intercropped with tall crops.
3. Temperature: When the soil temperature is 11-13°C, emergence takes 30-45 days; 25-28°C is most suitable for germination. Within this temperature range, if soil moisture is suitable, germination occurs one week after planting and seedlings emerge in 15-20 days. Below 8°C, the rhizome cannot sprout. From planting to harvest takes 150-160 days.
