Counting on my fingers, it has been more than a month since I fell into this hobby. I used to know nothing about succulents, and then one day I happened to pass by a flower shop. As if by some unspoken pact from a past life, one glance back awakened a heartbeat that had slept for years. Just then a song drifted through the sky: Meeting you is the luck of three lifetimes; one dream by the south shore intoxicated Tai Bai's poetic inspiration. I searched all the beautiful scenery of the four seas, and still it is you who makes my heart stir. This song from my hometown best expresses how I feel at this moment.

It happened that a colleague at work had gotten into succulents a few years before me. When she heard I was planning to start, she immediately and warmly recommended Mr. Encyclopedia to me. She told me to learn about them there before buying. I never expected there to be so many varieties of succulents. They dazzled me, and the more I looked, the more I felt Mr. Encyclopedia had opened up a whole new wondrous world I had never seen before. After learning just a little, I could hardly wait to get started.

To grow succulents, you first need a stand. I bought a flower rack online, and my husband silently took on the role of installer. I clearly remember that my first batch of succulents was bought online. In the past I always bought clothes, bags, and cosmetics; now I had started fiddling with succulents. Thinking about it, people's lives today are more and more prosperous. In some era in the past, when even filling one's stomach was a problem, this hobby would surely have been labeled a petty-bourgeois affectation and firmly suppressed. Fortunately, we caught up with a good era. Though I am over fifty, to still have the time and the means in this life to pursue my own little amateur bourgeois pleasures fills me with thoughts, and my heart silently shouts: gratitude for life, gratitude for this era!

Here I especially want to thank my thoughtful little padded jacket of a daughter. When my daughter heard I was about to begin my succulent-growing journey, she carefully chose all kinds of planting tools for me, top-dressing stones, and various succulent medicines. As it turned out, they were all indispensable treasures for growing succulents.

Here are the succulents in their bare-faced state:

Laur

After Laur was potted, it is a bit green now, but at least it has settled into the pot

Robin

Robin is now very tough

Bought at a street stall, name unknown

It feels quite beautiful even though I do not know its name. As they say, a hero is not asked where he comes from, so who cares? As long as it lives with spirit, it is a good succulent

Ice Age old stem, with the little succulents given as gifts casually planted below

The little succulents under the Ice Age old stem, having to bow their heads under someone else's roof

When Xiaomixing was potted, it was quite beautiful

Xiaomixing now, though as green as a dish of vegetables, is full of vitality

When Chihuahua was potted

Are the two leaves at the bottom of Chihuahua the prelude to turning to water? Fortunately I did not rashly pull it out. I used tweezers to remove the transparent leaves, then dipped a cotton swab in a small amount of carbendazim and applied it to the affected area, and placed it in a cool, ventilated place. After a week I watered in a circle along the rim of the pot, and Chihuahua finally settled into the pot

Chihuahua is not in its most beautiful state now, but after getting past this hurdle it will know how to cherish, and it will surely show me its beauty

Peach Egg

Later, after a rain, I finally understood that once some rain soaks through, it is gone. I once tried to rescue them, but in the end there was nothing to be done and the flowers fell. It is really, really true that you must not be greedy with rain, must not be greedy with water, and that controlling your hands is very important. How to water cannot be imitated blindly; what suits your own succulents is what is good. Only by personally experiencing it can a succulent grower sum up the soil mix, watering, and ventilation that suit them... I will omit ten thousand words here. When the temperature is high, you must control water, control water, control water.

Fortunately, the remaining Peach Egg leaves have bred new life

Baby Fingers

Baby Fingers old stem, a pot of succulents with a story. Back when it was first potted, it showed me its beauty. Every day when I came home, the first thing to catch my eye was her, yes her, exactly her. Then on a very beautiful weekend afternoon, I suddenly found her body covered with tiny white insects like dust. A moment before they had been silent, and the next moment they stung your eyes. I immediately aimed some miraculous product at her body and sprayed wildly. At that time it was the hottest period in our Wanzhou, Chongqing, a 35-degree afternoon, and the result was predictable: the next day leaves silently fell all over the ground. I thought it was black rot, but when I opened it up to look, the roots were still fine. After this ordeal, it was greatly weakened, and I threw it into a corner and did not even want to see it again. My heart was blocked, and I was gloomy for several days. I called my daughter, who was far away in Chengdu, and told her: Mom feels so discouraged. Fine succulents might just show me attitude if I do not handle things well, even though I treat them so well, moving them back and forth between two balconies every day, shading them from the sun and keeping them from the rain.

After graduating from university, my daughter works in Chengdu. Though she is not by my side, whenever I run into troubles I tell her. From childhood I raised her to be very independent and sunny, and now she is even more my support. My daughter laughed and said: Mom, growing succulents is just a little seasoning in your life. Having a hobby makes you more fulfilled; it is a way for you to relax. You should not be burdened by the succulents instead. Her words gave me back my confidence. Baby Fingers is still here now, and I hope time can make her beautiful again.
