Promoting early childhood reading: Kaohsiung City pioneers a dedicated website

(Taiwan Business News) To promote reading education from the ground up, the Kaohsiung City Government has built the nation's first dedicated website for early childhood reading education, "Young Love Reading," selecting 200 good books suitable for young children to sow the seeds of reading education. Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu yesterday (the 28th) transformed into "Flower Mom" and went to Kangze Kindergarten to tell stories to the children, personally demonstrating the promotion of early childhood reading education. She said she hopes that through parent-child co-reading and picture book reading, young children will fall in love with reading and have a happy and rich childhood.

Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu said that in order to implement a comprehensive and high-quality reading education promotion plan, Kaohsiung City has already built two dedicated websites, "Love Reading Most" for junior high schools and "Joy Reading Network" for elementary schools, for junior high and elementary school children to use. It has now also built "Young Love Reading" for preschoolers, and is expected to train 1,000 professional reading seed teachers and hold parent-child reading promotion activities, hoping to create a high-quality and happy reading environment where children can enjoy the pleasure of reading.

In addition, Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu also said that Kaohsiung children's reading ability, creativity and so on rank among the top in nationwide evaluations and have won recognition from all sectors. She hopes the city council will strongly support funding for children's education so that young children can develop the habit and interest of reading and enhance their comprehension, expression and creativity.

Yesterday morning, Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu read aloud the picture book "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" by international master Eric Carle, and young children dressed as various animals from the book appeared in a performance, leading everyone together into the vivid and interesting world of picture books.
