During the Junior High School Entrance Exam, Taipei City Hopes Protests Will Stay Away

(Taiwan Business News) The first-ever Comprehensive Assessment Program for Junior High School Students under the 12-Year Basic Education system will be held on May 17 and 18. Taipei City estimates that more than 28,000 students will take part. At a municipal meeting on the 29th, Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin specifically called on all applicants for large-scale events, or activities requiring traffic control and the deployment of police personnel, to avoid May 17 and 18 in order to protect the rights and interests of the students.

Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin said that there is still some time before the exam. In addition to instructing the New Construction Office, the Department of Transportation, the Police Department and other relevant departments to carefully handle road-use permit applications for the day of the exam and to make holding the exam an important consideration, Hau Lung-bin also instructed the relevant departments to take the initiative to communicate and explain matters to individuals or groups that have already submitted applications, so as to avoid affecting or disturbing the students.

After the meeting, Taipei City Government spokesman Zhang Qiqiang and Department of Education Commissioner Lin Yihua also briefed the media. Lin Yihua said that the exam score accounts for one-third of the ranking score in the 12-Year Basic Education system, giving it a very significant weight in students' advancement to higher education. The exam site closest to the Legislative Yuan is Chenggong High School, which will have more than 1,100 students. Therefore, she also called on everyone to avoid holding activities on those two exam days that require traffic control, police personnel, or the use of loudspeakers and microphones, in the hope that this important national exam can proceed smoothly.

Zhang Qiqiang also added that the exam is an important nationwide test. If the exam is disrupted, it will not only affect students in Taipei City. Students across all parts of Taipei City may be disturbed by large-scale events held that day, including tangible noise, traffic detours, or effects on the transport of exam papers. In addition, intangible factors must also be considered, such as the psychological pressure borne by the students.

When the media asked how the Taipei City Government would respond if a large-scale event were held that day, Lin Yihua said that the relevant units would assist by providing all the latest assembly information to the Department of Education, and that if necessary, the Police Department would be asked to assist with the transport of exam papers on that day.
