How much does it cost to invest in a small chicken farm?

Compared with raising other products, raising chickens has the characteristics of low investment, low risk, and high profit. Before establishing a chicken farm, it is necessary to choose the chicken breed suitable for your own farming. There are many breeds of chickens, roughly divided into native chickens, broiler chickens, pheasants, and so on. Each type of chicken is further divided into many varieties, and choosing different breeds will produce different economic benefits for the chicken farm. Comparing broiler chickens and native chickens, the market price of native chickens is 1 to 2 times that of broiler chickens, or even higher, and their popularity also exceeds that of broiler chicken products. In terms of farming environment, the farming scale of broiler chickens is generally larger than that of native chickens, and it is fully factory-farmed, making management relatively convenient.

The investment cost required for a chicken farm

Now the editor will take raising 500 native chickens as an example to estimate how much capital is needed to set up a chicken farm. The investment estimate reflects the feasibility of the project and is also helpful for raising and preparing funds. Chicken farm investment mainly includes the following aspects:

1. Fixed investment, including design fees for construction engineering, construction costs, renovation costs, as well as equipment costs for purchasing equipment, transportation costs, installation costs, and so on.

2. Working capital: mainly includes feed, water and electricity, fuel, immunization drugs, and selected chicken breeds, and so on. Among these, feed costs account for 70 to 80% of the entire farming investment.

Investment analysis of a chicken farm

A chicken farm raising 500 chickens is a small-scale chicken farm. From the perspective of construction costs, fixed expenses such as building chicken coops and purchasing equipment are generally between 7000 and 10000, which does not include changes in material prices or the costs of wear and deformation from material use. Native chickens drink relatively little water, so water costs for a small-scale chicken farm can basically be ignored.

From the perspective of feeding costs, the cost of raising native chickens mainly includes chick cost, feed cost, and epidemic prevention cost. Calculated at 4 yuan per female chick, the cost of 500 chicks is 500*4=2000 yuan.

Raising one chicken for four months consumes about 12-14 yuan in feed and feeding costs (respectively 6 jin of grain, 1 yuan per jin, that is 6 yuan; 3 jin of yellow mealworms, 1.5 yuan per jin, that is 4.5 yuan; 3 jin of fly maggots, 0.5 yuan per jin, that is 1.5 yuan), and for 500 chickens the feed cost is 500*14=7000 yuan.

Total investment: 7000 yuan + 2000 yuan = 9000 yuan.

Gross profit analysis of a chicken farm

Under normal circumstances, they can be marketed after four months of raising. One chicken can reach at least between 2.5 jin and 3 jin. Calculated at 2.5 jin per chicken, and with the survival rate calculated at a minimum of 90%, that is 500 chickens × 0.9/survival rate × 2.5 jin/chicken × 15 yuan (wholesale price)/jin = 16875 yuan.

After deducting the 9000 yuan invested in chicks and feed, the net profit is about 7875 yuan. Calculated this way, raising one native chicken can earn at least about 15 yuan.

The annual net profit for farmers raising native chickens free-range is: 7875*3-10000=13628 yuan.

Summary: Of course, the investment cost, feeding cost, and selling price of these chicken farms are all variable. For example, the investment cost of a chicken farm is related to the actual situation, and changes in profit mainly depend on the market and farming technology. Having a market without farming technology is not enough, and having farming technology without a market is also not enough.
