What exactly is the role of sugar in chicken farming?

Sugar can be divided into brown sugar, white sugar, rock sugar, glucose, etc. It is sweet in taste and enters the spleen, liver and lungs. It has the effects of tonifying qi and blood, strengthening the spleen and warming the stomach, buffering and relieving pain, promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, and moistening the lungs and promoting fluid production. Western medicine believes that sugar is rich in carbohydrates, riboflavin, carotene, niacin, iron and other nutrients. It can supply energy, strengthen the heart and promote diuresis, replenish body fluids, detoxify, improve palatability, enhance the body's resistance and immunity, and promote wound healing. Therefore, sugar has a wide range of sources, is simple to use, and is cheap. It can promote the growth and development of chickens and prevent and treat a variety of diseases.
Increase the survival rate of chicks
On the first day after hatching, chicks are given 5%-8% white sugar water or glucose water to drink, with an appropriate amount of vitamin C added. This can reduce the mortality rate of chicks within one week of age by 50%, and promote the absorption of yolk and the excretion of meconium. From the second day onward, give them an 8%-10% sugar solution to drink for 7-10 consecutive days. This can improve the feed conversion rate of chickens, promote growth and development, increase body weight, and reduce the occurrence of diseases.
Properly control the sex of chicks
Glucose enters the chicken's body, enhances the body's oxidative metabolism, and affects the internal environment in which sperm and eggs each live during fertilization. According to production experiments: adding 10% glucose to rooster feed and feeding it for about 10 days, then letting roosters and hens mate at fixed times, among the chickens hatched from the breeding eggs produced, males account for 59.8%; conversely, females account for 64.2%.
Increase the egg production rate
Use 0.5 g each of honey and white sugar per chicken per day, dilute with water, and evenly mix into the daily ration to feed laying hens. This can increase egg production by 10%-15%.
Enhance stress resistance
Factors such as moving groups, dividing groups, beak trimming, changing feed, sudden weather changes, transportation, and being frightened easily cause stress reactions in chickens, often leading to poor development, reduced disease resistance, reduced immunity, and increased mortality. Reasonably feeding sugar water can supplement nutrition, enhance disease resistance, and effectively prevent the occurrence of stress. The method is: before and after vaccination, transportation, etc. of chicks, give the chicks cold boiled water with 5% glucose and 0.1% vitamin C to drink for 3-5 consecutive days. This can effectively prevent the occurrence of stress in chickens.
Detoxification
1. Clopidol poisoning: immediately stop feeding feed containing clopidol, and quickly feed 5%-10% white sugar or glucose water to drink for 3-5 consecutive days. At the same time, it also has a certain detoxifying effect on nitrite poisoning in chickens.
2. Furazolidone poisoning: use a dropper to manually administer 10% glucose water; at the same time, use vitamin C 1.05-0.1 g, B1 5-10 mg, intramuscular injection once, twice a day, for 3-5 consecutive days. The therapeutic effect is better.
3. Salt poisoning: give chickens cold boiled water with 10% glucose and 0.5% vitamin C to drink freely; at the same time, use gentamicin 5-7.5 mg per kg of body weight, intramuscular injection once, twice a day, for 3-5 consecutive days. The effect is remarkable.
Disease prevention
1. Pullorum disease in chicks: give chicks 5%-8% brown sugar water to drink for 3-5 consecutive days. Or use oxytetracycline 25-50 mg, vinegar 2 mL, white sugar 5 g per kg of chicken body weight, add water to dissolve, mix evenly, and let the chickens drink freely. This not only prevents and treats the occurrence of pullorum disease, but also promotes growth and development. Or take 25 g of brown sugar and 25 g of baicaoshuang, mix with a small amount of water to make pills, and give each chicken 0.5-1 g each time, 2-3 times a day, for 3-5 consecutive days.
2. Infectious bursal disease: use 1 g of raw gypsum and 3 g of brown sugar per chicken per day, add water, decoct, and take the juice for chickens to drink for 5-7 consecutive days. The cure rate is about 96%. Or take 5-7 live toads weighing 50-120 g, put them in a pot, add water, and boil for 10 minutes to obtain a decoction (concentration 1:10). After it cools, add an appropriate amount of 5% white sugar, and let the chickens drink freely, 3-5 mL per chicken each time, twice a day, for 2—7 consecutive days. The cure rate is 97%.
