Spring and Summer Duck Epidemic Prevention and Treatment Techniques

The main spring and summer duck epidemics include duck plague, duckling hepatitis, duck infectious serositis, duck pasteurellosis and duck colibacillosis, and the detailed prevention and treatment methods are as follows.

Duck Plague

[Prevention] Inject duck plague vaccine at 10—15 days of age.

[Treatment] For every 100 adult ducks, use 15g of Chuanxiong (Ligusticum chuanxiong), 20g of talc, 10g of honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica), 12g of turmeric (Curcuma aromatica), 8g of Sichuan pepper, 20g of cinnamon, 15g of codonopsis (Codonopsis pilosula) and 20g of licorice, decoct in water and take the liquid, add 200g of 50℃ baijiu and mix well, give to the ducks to drink, 4—5ml per duck.

Duckling Hepatitis

[Prevention] Immunize breeder ducks twice a year.

[Treatment] For every 100 ducks, use 100g of Yin Chen (Artemisia capillaris), and 40g each of Xiang Ru (Elsholtzia), rhubarb, Gentianae scabrae radix, gardenia, Scutellaria baicalensis, Phellodendron amurense and Isatis root, decoct in water and take the liquid, add 500g of white sugar and give to the ducks as drinking water or mixed with feed, once a day for 3 consecutive days. At the same time, add 50g of poultry multivitamins and 100 yeast tablets crushed and mixed well to every 50kg of feed.

Duck Infectious Serositis

[Prevention] Routinely add 2%—4% sulfamethoxazole (Sinomin) to the drinking water.

[Treatment] Use 7500 international units of gentamicin per kg of duck body weight, mix into the drinking water, use for 2—3 consecutive days, and add an appropriate amount of poultry multivitamins to the feed to improve the efficacy.

Duck Pasteurellosis

[Prevention] For duck farms where this disease frequently occurs, mix olaquindox into the feed and feed for 3 days every 10 days, using 25 mg per kg of feed, or mix Andrographis paniculata powder into the feed and feed for 2—3 days each week, or mix oxytetracycline base into the feed at 50 mg per kg of body weight and feed for 2 days.

[Treatment] For sick ducks, inject penicillin and streptomycin intramuscularly at 50000 units each per kg of body weight, twice a day, with effect seen after 2 consecutive days. Sulfonamide drugs, such as sulfadiazine and sulfadimethylpyrimidine, are mixed into the feed at 0.05%—0.1% and fed for 3—5 consecutive days.

Duck Colibacillosis

[Prevention] Disinfect the duck house and utensils once every 2 weeks routinely, and twice a week once the disease is detected.

[Treatment] Inject gentamicin intramuscularly at 10000 units per kg of body weight, once a day for 3 consecutive days, or add it to the drinking water at 20000 units per kg of body weight and administer for 3 consecutive days. Use norfloxacin according to the drug instructions for 3 consecutive days.
